I can't decide between the following two hard drives as an upgrade for an m1530. Which is quieter? Which is cooler? etc?

Technically, a slower hard drive will be quieter and runs cooler. However, in reality, you won't be able to tell the difference unless you are running benchmarks.

If you are comparing a 5400rpm and a 7200rpm, you won't find much of a difference in terms of performance. In fact, a larger 5400rpm performs equally well as a smaller capacity 7200rpm. Either way, the 5400rpm will supposedly run cooler and less loud, but again, you won't really find much of a difference in reality unless you're running benchmarks.

I had the same dilemma and just bought the WD (combo deal w/ the external case)
In terms of pure access speed, you won't find anything better than the 7k200.
But for a pretty fast and spacious 5400rpm drive, you won't find anything better than the wd3200 (maybe except samsung's 320GB?)
