Every time I let my Vostro Idle for a little while the screen turns black and it will never go back the only way for me to fix it is to restart the computer manually, how do you fix this?

I'm not sure if this will help, but mine goes into one of the power saving modes after not being used for a short while. I just give the power button a short push (as opposed to holding it down which I believe would power it down). The short push wakes it up again.... I think it may come back with a log on screen, I don't use it often enough to be sure.

I just looked in the manual, it says -
"To exit standby or sleep mode, press the power button or open the display,
depending on how you set the power management options. You cannot make
the computer exit standby or sleep mode by pressing a key or touching the
    touch pad."

Not sure what it means by "open the display".

Maybe it means "open up the laptop"? ;)

I've had this problem as well, I attributed the causes to unstable beta nvidia drivers, Live messenger without SP2 compatibility turned on, windows sidebar errors and not selecting the option to allow USB devices (like my mouse) to wake the system from standby. Now I do get the black screen but at least the PC responds when I press the start key.

Now using beta 169.28 which doesn't seem to have the suspend issue. Disabled live messenger and sidebar from activating at startup and made sure my power plans were set with the USB wakeup option selected. Try these out and see how it goes.
