I have my touchpad set to where if I have a USB mouse in use it disables. But now, for some reason, when I pull the USB mouse out, the pad continues to stay disabled unless I disable the feature.
Should I reinstall the Synaptics Driver?
I have the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000 (do not have the software it came with installed)
Another thing. When I don't have any USB Device plugged in, my laptop says it "recognizes" new USB HID Device, therefore disabling my touchpad. When I go to Device Manager there are several "HID-compliant mouse" under the mice and keyboards tree and "HID compliant consumer control Device" under the human interface tree.
Only one mouse has been plugged in.
Any help would be great!

That is a pic of my device manager. Only ONE mouse is plugged it right now.

No one can help me?

Well unfortunately I don't really know what is going on. Was hoping I could come in here and say "Yes, Matt IS pro. This Matt." But I can't because I can't say what's going on. You mentioned that you aren't using the MS provided software for your wireless mouse - is there a particular reason why?
-
Well, I am now. I just downloaded it a few minutes ago.
I have another screen without the mouse in. There are still devices found.

why don't you try turning off that option that disables touchpad when you attach another mouse...
-
That's not the problem. The problem is that my computer, even without ANY mouse plugged in, says that there are USB devices plugged in. When I go to the device manager, as I show in the screens above, there are several things listed under the Human Interface tree and an extra listing under the Mice and Other Pointing Devices tree.
-
Any insights?

try unistalling the extras, reboot and see what happens. Your keyboard might have a usb interface inside, as well as the touchpad might, if they do, they will simply reinstall themselves. Anything that was "left behind" by a pull out, should be erased and mecca should be reached
Dunno really what mecca is, but it sounded good.

I’m also using Microsoft Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 6000, intellipoint software, Synaptics touchpad with Disable touchpad when USB pointing device is present setting. Had the same problem until I disabled the HID-compliant mouse in the Device Manager. Disabling it didn’t affect anything. I'm not sure what that driver does, but now everything work as intended.
Hope this helps. -
good show young man, good show.
Hopefully that will work for ya.
-
Any reason as to why that occurs though? I mean, if nothing is plugged in, then nothing should show up like it does in the pictures.
-
sometimes the system doesn't realize whatever it is has been unplugged, usually a restart fixes it, but sometimes not. It happens worse when you are constantly plugging and unplugging things. Part of the reason for my opting for the BT mouse, no plug/unplug/plug/unplug. Plus the software will just reconnect when i turn my mouse back on. It's a nice feature.
-
Well, I don't know what to do. Even when I uninstall these unknown HID-compliant devices, the touchpad remains disables unless I disable the feature.
And as I said, the problem continues to persist although NOTHING is plugged in when I click "scan for hardware changes."
The second picture is just after a restart, no mouse plugged in, and just after clicking the "scan for hardware changes." -
considering I don't have the laptop to mess with you have exhausted my capabilities to try and help you. Sorry. Hopefully someone else can help you better. I don't really know the inner workings of the dell systems that well. Have you tried tech support through dell?
-
I don't think its anything with the laptop. I'm going to try and reinstall the Synaptics Driver and possibly the USB drivers. We'll see how that works.

New developments:

I noticed this as I was trying to search for a solution. I enabled the hidden devices, and that is what I found. Any ideas? -
As I said, I had the exact same problem, but it works fine now after disabling HID-complaint mouse. -
Here is how my Device Manager looks like :

What about the extra entries in the "Human Interface Devices" tree?
Also, there is an extra entry under the "Keyboard" tree. The laptop keyboard in there, but then there is a HUD-compliant keyboard.
What gives with this? lol
Here is a screen:

Note that the option to disable the extra keyboard entry isn't given. And if I uninstall it, it just comes back.
Here is a screen with the mouse plugged in:
