Alright well, I have a Inspiron 1525. It is obviously older, but i have a huge problem with it and I am looking for some information on if there is anything i can possibly do. So I don't have to junk it.

Recently it has decide to wants to run at extremely high tempatures and sometimes just shut itself down before it even loads the desktop view. Just all around overheating. It even decided to run those automatic update installers for windows things and it shut itself down causing everything to go corrupt and it was set factory default.
The fan was making all kinds of crazy noise to go along with it.

I took it into a place to get it checked out and looked at. They first said it was just dirty inside and all that and that it works fine now.
Obviously they did not have it on for more than two minutes, because all these things were still happening. I took it back in and they replaced the fan and said it is all working, BUT.
Just running this webpage alone in google chrome browser my system temp is at 70-80 c.
If I try and watch a video or something i usually get shut down.
Idle with nothing running it sits 55-70.
So, is there anything I can really do to get this thing working there way it was made to, or am I sol.
I have tried RMClock and that i8kfangui, neither work with this 1525 as to what i can see getting no cooler temps.

Have you tried cleaning out the heatsinks, fan and heatfins? Any dust in listed places can reduce the effectiveness of the cooling system.

Have you also tried repasting your CPU? Sometimes poorly applied thermal pads or the TIM could be caked up.

that would most likely constitute needing to be repasted ?
never had to do any repasting before.

I would clean that heatsink and the processor with at least 99% anhydrous alcohol. Then reapply thermal paste.

    Alright, thanks.
Is there a certain way to go about applying it or is it fairly straight simple and how it sounds.

You need about a raindrop sized glob and evenly spread it.
