TL;DR Specs on prospective new G5 laptop at the end - is it a good value for the money, or is there something better out there *in stock right now* (aka not sold out everywhere like all the TUF laptops)?
Hi Folks,
I'm in desperate need of a new laptop *right now* and I've been researching them exhaustively for about two months, mostly comparing Dell, Asus, Acer and HP models. Full disclosure: I've been a loyal Dell customer for over 15 years.
I NEED a machine that will last (both in durability and technology-wise); I WANT a laptop capable of providing an acceptable gaming experience, but I am planning to build my own gaming DESKTOP, so it need not be top of the line.
Good display quality is important to me but as mentioned, specs that are not already on their way to obsolescence are a higher priority (especially since, in theory, I can connect my laptop to an external monitor more easily than I can upgrade hardware).
I had planned to keep my budget closer to $1k, but I've not been able to find what I consider to be minimum future-proof specs for that price (i.e. i7 processor, 16 gb ram, larger SSD drive, and discrete graphics card).
However, this Dell G5 deal has caught my eye and I'm considering finally pulling the trigger (yes, it's significantly more money, but on sale for $1371, reg. $1650 and it seems like a good deal). ***Here's my dilemma - is going roughly $370 over my budget worth it compared to getting a $1k laptop with lower specs (i5 processor, 8 gb ram, older graphics card like Nvidia 1650, 256 gb SSD)???**

Future proof? Naah... With Gen9 Hexa-core CPU, with RTX2060, isn't that too much for "acceptable gaming"?
Save that 300, or wait for AMD's Hexa-core with GPU that performs close to RTX2060 coming in DELL's slimmer than current G5 body in months time... Much lesser than a K for start.Vasudev likes this. -
Ouch... I missed that "NOW" in your title...
Go for the GTX1650 with the i5, save that 300 for something else...SOORYA BATEMAN likes this. -

Need a laptop NOW, is this Dell G5 worth the extra $$$$$?
