    Hi.

I heard that new dells can detect a non-dell power supply, and you get reduced performance.

    Regards

    John.

You might be right, the Amazon.com reviews of the HQRP model are not good.

Where can I buy a Dell branded power adapter for less? I mean, $65 dollars from Dell.com seems like a bit much. Maybe I can find a coupon code?

    UPDATE:
Have you guys ever used ATbatt.com? I found a battery for half the price of Dell.com:
    http://www.atbatt.com/product/6725.asp

I just want to make sure it's fully compatible.

for the power supply, just go to eBay... you can find plenty of Dell adapters (both fake and genuine) for half that $65.

I've been using one of these fakes for a while, and it's been fine:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=260316125918

But you can pay a little more and get something genuine as well:
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&item=370125524164

In general the fakes are about $10 less than the genuine ones.

I can buy the official adapter for $35.99 at this website:

    http://www.atbatt.com/product/6725/laptop/dell/inspiron-700m/charger/pd/nextag2

Add this coupon code at checkout cart and you save even more: EDU15

    Price becomes $30.59

Add shipping costs (ground shipping is cheapest) = $38.42

I trust the atbatt.com website a bit more than eBay sellers. I went here for reviews on the website:
    http://www.resellerratings.com/store/AtBatt

Seems to be pretty solid. Thanks for your help and insight. I'm a bit worried about third party adapters...sounds dangerous.
