    Hi Gang,

I've had my XPS M1210 for just over 2 years and I've recently started to get pop-up messages regarding my battery's life. Here's my questions for you: (1) Would my extended warranty cover this cost? (2) If not, where should I buy by new battery - Dell or another distributor (3) Once I purchase my new battery, can I still use the old one as a back up? Will this old battery eventually damage my system?

    Thanks Gang,

    The Dude

Up until the past couple months, Dell hasnt had a warranty past 12 months to cover the battery even if the system carried a 3 year. So I would say that it is almost a sure bet that your battery is out of waranty, but it never hurts to ask them to cover it. sometimes customer service issues can carry more weight that the fine print in warranties.

Using an exhausted batter will not hurt your system from a component standpoint. the system will draw the correct amount of power from it until it is dead. So it wont be an issue where it is only delivering half the power it should be which could damage components.

Dell only covers batteries for one year. eBay or the likes would probably be cheaper, just avoid the ones that are too cheap. No, the battery won't damage your system if you continue to use it with a low capacity.

    a) i would try to get from dell.... batteries lose their capacity once made... ebay - might be an old battery... if it's too expensive, wait for price drop or coupon
