I don't like QuickSet because it conflicts with the programs I prefer to use, SpeedSwitchXP and I8kFanGui. The main problem I have is no on screen display for the volume buttons, brightness, and most importantly, the media control buttons don't work in Winamp. With my Inspiron 6000 I installed the Logitech iTouch software but I can't seem to locate the installer I used to have. Alternative solutions?

There is a Winamp plugin that works for the Vostro media buttons; I think you can find it on the Winamp website. It's actually called Dell Inspiron Media Buttons or something like that.
-
I use the Microsoft IntelliType, and tell it I have a comfort keyboard (it doesn't check the hardware). While it doesn't work for brightness, it seems to work better with media players.

Eh I can deal with no brightness meter, I mean the on-screen results are fairly evident.
Does the IntelliType software show an on-screen volume indicator? -

Excellent, my iTouch display would usually make it's way through full screen games but it was spotty at times. I'll check out the IntelliType and see how it treats me.

****ing Microsoft....
The software works great, but the media buttons only work in Windows Media Player and not Winamp/iTunes. Does work in Foobar though at least. Well forget iTunes, I guess I'll be getting the Winamp plugin. -
It works in iTunes for me, I think you have to restart before it works.

Mmk iTunes working, Winamp not. Off I go to Winamp's site now.
Edit: Winamp plugin works great, and I like that IntelliType has a lower memory imprint than iTouch. -
it only works in itunes if itunes is maximized, if you minimize it and click on some other application the media buttons woudlnt work..
