I have an Inspiron 1525 where the faceplate has been ripped off of the DVD drive and it also was not working (we rent these out to the public..YAY!). I bought a new DVD drive from newegg but the faceplace does not fit (Dell has it's own design).

Is there a place where I could just buy the faceplate?

    thank you

Search the part # and order it from Dell. Also check ebay, they might have it there.

Check the service manual or google for the part #

Might be worth contacting Dell customer services/tech people for the part number and asking them for a replacement face plate as this sounds like a very manufacture specific housing part that is unlikely to be made by any 3rd party.

Are you serious??? ROTFLMAO!!!! What, you want me to end up in an asylum being cookoo for coco-puffs?

Dell's customer support is incompetent to the Nth(insert your level of frustration) degree. I have to deal with them on technical support chat regularly, which isn't too bad, but calling their customer support is a completely different story.

But thanx for the reply! I was looking for maybe a link or something to that effect to make life easy!

face plate could be a pain to find. If you cannot find any, try finding old broken 1525 cd drives and just salvage it.
