I'm getting a Dell and can't decide which one I like best. I've done my ressearch and I've narrowed it down to two finalists. I was looking for something that was powerful yet small(5lbs or less) I'm doing mostly ordinary stuff,(web browsing word processing, movie watching and managing my music library) no games that I consider graphics intensive. I've listed the pros for each system below and would greatly appreciate any imput any of you might have.

    Inspiron 630m

    fairly inexpensive when cofigured
has the option of Truelife screen(D620 doesn't)
More geared toward home use in general.

    Latitude D620

Better build quality than the Inspiron line
    Intel Duo Core processor
not as much bloatware since it's a buisness notebook.

Just as a note the two computers would both be configured exactly the same except for the processor.

    Hi there, you said configured.

Could you mention the exact system specs in general for both these machines. If you're doing general "home" stuff I would go for th 630m. You could always remove the "bloatware" if you have to, but please post the system specs if you can.

    Thanks.

If you want to watch movies the D620 is not the best choice. Laptop Magazine www.laptopmag.com noted some blurrying on action scenes with this machine. The XPS M140 is an entertainment notebook. Its case is styled like the rest of the Inspiron line, bright silver with white accents. I have the i6000 which looks just like it and it is an attention getting when I pull it out in public. I personally wanted something more 'low key'.

The D620 has many practical advantages such as the Quick Charge feature (80% recharge in 1 hour; important when travelling), Battery life indicator, Wifi indicator (without the need to turn on the PC), More durable case which also has a spillproof keyboard and has some 'antishock' properties. The screen resolution can be upgraded to WXGA+ (1440x900). You also have the option for a modular 6 cell battery or modular Hard drive (both of which will add weight but are removable). This is upgradable to 4 GB of RAM.If you do a lot of multitasking, this computer will be more of an advantage. Recent talk though shows that the Dual Core Pentiums will have a short lived dominance since the dual core 64 bit processors will be coming out soon. I chose this Notebook, myself (2 Ghz dual core, 1 GB RAM, 100 GB 7200 RPM HD).

Based on today, both will serve you well. If you want more multimedia use, the XPS M140, in your case is the best choice.

Yeah, I'd go straight for the D620 if it had the glossy screen. How much slower is the Pentium M than the Duo Core in processing regular tasks? is it a huge difference?

So it's like I thought, the Core duo is mainly for multi threaded applications and multitasking. So far I think I'll stick with the inspiron since they haven't come out with too many duo core models yet. I'm actually going to get the M140 istead of the 630m since I can get 10% off.

Definitely good choice considering the cost.

Why doesn't Dell have Truelife as an option for the D620? I know it's a buisness notebook but still it would be nice I could get the glossy screen.
