I contacted Dell for deals on the E1705 and here is what the offer was:
Dual Core T2300 - 1.66GHz
512MB Memory
80G H/D
XP Media Edition w/ reinstallation CD
17" Widescree XGA+
512MB Memory
CD/DVD Burner
Internal Wireless + 6 Cell Battery + Microsoft Works Suite
2 Yrs at Home Warranty + 24 Month Antivirus
TOTAL - $1199
This is my first notebook purchase. The Dell sales reps are pretty fast talkers and they will be contacting me tomorrow to finalize this deal.
Is this a good deal? Is there anything that I should consider adding?
Please help.......quickly.

Umm no do not do that deal. You can at least get a 1.8 core duo, 1 gig ram, and a nice nvidia card. You need to get your computer to above 2 thousand dollors, then use the $750.00 off and your computer will only be $1.150.00 dollors. You will note a BIG diference in performance also.

I see they are offering a free CD DVD burner upgrade. Don't know if you already have it. Also if you can afford it I would try and upgrade the memory to 1Gb. Check above this page and click on Dell coupons. There are a variety of coupons to chose from. I wouldn't worry about making a quick decision, Dell always has coupons. Also the UXGA Trulife will give you a crisper display. Great thing about Dell is the rebates allow you to get alot more for less.

Why get a 2 year home warranty? If you buy with a credit card that extends your manufacturer's warranty, you can save some money.
Why not consider WSXGA?
I agree, try pricing with the coupon. You may come out ahead. If you use an 'agent' you may be paying for the seller's new golf clubs. -
Definitely wait for 40% off or the $850 off $2000+ with coupon deal. What you do is select the base model (but with core duo still) E1705, and add options until the RETAIL price listed is >$2000. Then when you check out, you put in your coupon code, and the price will drop to around $1200.

Was there mention of what graphics option was coming in this package? That's also something to consider as well; though another question is if you are going to be needing a dedicated graphics card, particularly for gaming. It'd be a good idea to know what video option you're receiving before signing on the dotted line....

If you pay with an American Express card it extends the manufacturer's warranty an additional year.

my capitol one visa doubles whatever manufacturer's warrenty. Just call your card's customer service number and ask what warrenty benefits you get.

Whe will there be another $750 off coupon?
Need help before buying E1705....quickly
