Here are the two systems configurations I am deciding between, both are Dell E1505.

    2 ghz Core Duo
    regular screen
    1 GB ram
    60 GB 7200 rpm hdd
    dvd burner
    ATI X1400
    6 cell battery
    extra 9 cell battery
3 year at home warranty w/ accidental insurance

Total: $1264 after $750 off coupon

    OR

    1.83 ghz
    reg screen
    1 GB ram
    60 GB 7200 rpm hdd
    dvd burner
    ATI X1400
    9 cell battery
    1 year mail in warranty

    Total: $966.55 w/ a 35% off coupon from ebay

The price difference is $297.45. The 6 cell battery isn't worth much so it would be about $250 for the warranty and the extra .17 ghz of processing power (per core).

I am a college student and I will be taking this to class daily. I am leaning towards the cheaper system, that way I could afford an xbox 360 :).

In my opinion I would take the cheaper one and downgrade the processor to a 1.66 because you would not see much of a difference and upgrade the warranty to onsite.

I would go for the cheaper model. The faster CPU doesn't make much difference. I also don't think you need the three-year warranty. Just be careful not to spill a drink on the notebook and don't drop it. If something needs replacement, Dell can mail you the part and you should be able to install it yourself.

I would honestly go with the 1st one. Reasons why.

    For $297 more:
    Its a T2500
    The warranty is great
    and a extra battery

    Just my opinion

accidental i insist upon! especially since you're taking it to school. if you drop it, your bag rips etc...or if its in your dorm and you're all partying it up and someone spills their beer in your keyboard!!! uh oh...yeah. it happened to me :p but dell replaced it because that's what accidental coverage is for. its worth the extra dough.

Agreed im getting mine for college and im getting 4 years accadental damage coverage for the same reason. Also considering im a clutz and break everything new I seem to touch, it will be worth it.

You can get a brand new dell-branded 9 cell battery pretty cheaply (under $70) on ebay. If you need a second battery, that is.
