Hi all,
After searching hours for reviews ...found this good website and thought to post my problem, hoping i will get some good suggestions. Also can anyone tell me how to identify whether the laptop is refurbished or not.
I bought e1505 in Feb..after a week Hitachi 5K160 is making cluttering sound and overheating the laptop, which i can feel heat on keyboard near hard disk.
contacted Dell, they sent me a new replacement laptop with Seagate momentus 5400.3 160GB, Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5540A ATA Device and everything else is same. They said its a new one not refurbished.
After reading lots of reviews now i fell in dilemma..should i keep the new one..or ask dell to send another one with exact configuration.
my laptop configs are.
Dell E1505
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz
2 GB Ram
ATI X1400 Mobility GPU
160 GB 5400 RPM-Hitachi 5k160 ------> Seagate Momentus 5400.3 160GB
TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-L632D -------> Optiarc DVD+-RW AD-5540A ATA Device
WSXGA+
Bluetooth
Intel Wireless Card
Thanks,
Scorpio.

Sorry, can't help on how to determine if new or refurbished, but if Dell stated it was new then I guess it's new????
As far as insisting on an exact replacement, not sure I understand the concern. When you ordered the laptop you didn't specify Hitachi HDD and Samsung (which is what TSST is) DVD because you couldn't - you ordered the specs and Dell provided the model that they current had stock of. When they sent you a replacement they sent what they then had in stock - same specs, different manufacturer.
If the replacement is working properly, and one of the parts that you got different was the cause of the original problem then why worry? If the replacement is faulty then Dell need to know and resolve.
Am i missing something? -
After reading through some posts..found that samsung DVD has problems and seagate is a bit slow and crashed in some instances..but so far everyone said Hitachi is good..my concern wouldbe whether seagate is reliable or not..

If you are not having problems I wouldn't worry. Dell is completely within their rights to send you whatever brand components they want as long as they are not giving you something less than you paid for. That said, if you have an issue contact them, they have a responsibility to make things right.

You can't pick and choose suppliers - Dell doesn't work that way. By the sounds of it you are happier with the DVD you got in hte replacement, but want to go back to Hitachi for the HDD because Seagate has problems reported.
Hmmm, and what was it that caused you to send the original laptop back - the Hitachi HDD!!
If everything is working then you aren't going to get any joy from Dell, if there is a problem then get Dell to address, but bear in mind that the next machine you get may have completely different hardware - my HDD is Samsung in a 6400 (same as 1505) -
Metamorphical Good computer user
Unfortunately roffensian is right. Dell isn't going to do a anything if it is working fine. If you do send it in for the HDD you may not get Hitachi again. There is probably a 1 in 5 change given the fact there aren't really that many 160gig/5K HDDs on the market, but those odds still don't seem worth the hassel to me.
Need help deciding on E1505
