    Hi everyone,
I have the same problem like the guy who opened this thread,

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=279618

but I wanted to open a new one because my warranty ended months ago and I've decided to take care of it myself.

I have a Dell XPS M1210 bought on Nov 06 with these specs
    T7200 CPU
    2 GIG Ram
    Nvidia 7400 go GPU
    200GB 7400 RPM HDD ( replaced with original 80 5400RPM)

It came with XP pro and it was eligible for Vista Upgrade program. When I first installed Vista almost a year ago, I realized my computer started to run very hot. other issues with Vista bothered me much and i switched to XP again. But now even with xp, my computer runs really hot (i can't put is on my lap after an hour regular internet surfing. Here is figures Hardware monitor.

these figures captured after 30 minutes of outlook and firefox usage including youtube video watching. Once it gets this hot, it never cools down to unde 60 degrees, always between 65-75. Battery attached and AC powered, laptop placed on a coffee table which is a huge and thick marble even my coffee gets cool quickly when I put it there :)
The strange thing is even this hot, fan never ran at full speed but it sometimes does when cpu heat is around 65.

Anyway, (sorry for long thraed and bad English) I decided to check heatsink and /or reinstall it by using arctic silver 5 . I tested my skills on dismantling it to pieces I managed to put it together again

So any help from people how to do this heatsink installing process is welcome and of course if you think I shouldn't do this or if you have any other solution (not a laptop cooler) please tell me.

    Thanks

Thanks, but I already have the latest driver from Dell. I'm waiting for shipment of AS5 . If there's no one to stop me, I'll take that risk in couple of days...

I just did it. Removed the heatsink, cleaned the old compound with a nail polish remover, applied arctic silver 5 to CPU. I didn't have any spare thermal pads (i was thinking about using the ones that already there. Bu i accidentalley removed the one for GPU. Then i decided to use silicon based compound instead of pad (bought it from radioshack, $2.99). Just poured it and spraded onto GPU gently, almost 2 mm height. I also cleaned the grill (it was very dirty). Then i put the system together again. Now everything looks good. while i'm typing this message CPU is 52 GPU is 55 , way better than before.

as you can see on hwmonitor, i reached only 68 peak and that happened while running wprime 4 times back to back.

Now only thing that bothers me temps rarely jump 3-4 degree up and then comes back to the previous value. And another thing ; why chipset temp is always 25C . Is it because there is no sensor for chipset?
