I haven't gotten my laptop yet, but I wanna be able to jump right in and start formatting it. It'll be coming with Win XP Home and no Office software.

If there's a guide on how to format it and combine the existing partition (or even make my own 15GB sized one) that'd be cool. I pretty much just want to get rid of all the extra crap Dell puts on there and install my Win XP Pro and Office XP Pro (which I got for total of $32 Canadian)

I'd like to leave a 15GB partition for my music files for my iPod. And then there's obviously the drivers I'll need to redownload. Is there an easy list of the ones I need?

I have a step by step guide and extra information about reformatting Dell Inspirons. There is information about partitioning.

As for the drivers, you will need to download and install drivers from every category except Printer and Display. Depending on your hardware, you might not need the IDE. In the applications category, you don't have to download anything unless you are wanting Dell software. In the System & Conf Utilities, downlaod Notebook System Software. This will only run one time on install, and will resolve any conflicts.
