    I upgraded my 30 gig 4200 RPM to a 60 gig 7200 RPM. I did this just like Nesbo said. It's very easy to bend the pins, but they are not as sensitive as CPU pins, so you can easily bend them back into place. The illustrated instructions should be in your manual.

    * Inspiron 8600c * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * 60GB 7200RPM HDD *

    I did upgrade mine. There is a screw underneath the portion of the computer where the headphone/mic jacks are located. Once unscrewed, the cradle containing the hard drive will slide out.

    Now this part can be a little tricky. If you order a HD from Dell then it's easy. If you order from another party, it takes a few more steps.

    If you order from Dell, the HD will already have the proper connector attached to the HD, and you simply put it back into the cradle, slide it into the computer, and put back the screw.

    If you get the HD from another party, you need to carefully remove the pin adaptor from the old HD. (this is the part that enters the port slot inside the laptop) Be careful when pulling of this adaptor from the disk as you can easily bend the pins located on the HD. Then take this adaptor and place it on the pins of the new HD. Put the HD back in the cradle, slide it into the laptop and it should easliy fit in the port inside the computer. Attach the screw and you are done.

    Does that make sense?
