I'd recommend the 14" notebook over the 15" notebook as you have pointed out you will be traveling with it. If price is a concern, even if it's small, you really don't need the 128MB Graphics Card on the system for your uses. Yes, you can upgrade Vista Home Basic to Vista Home Premium or Vista Ultimate :)

Oh, and the only thing I'd like to mention is in regard to the battery...get the 9-cell AND the 6-cell. The 9-cell is like a $50 upgrade, while the upgrade to BOTH of them is only like $70, so for $20 extra you get an extra battery...which is WELL worth it...

If you aren't planning to play any games or high definition movies (including downloaded stuff in x264 and such), you can safely drop the video card. The only thing I can see it affecting is Aero, but that shouldn't be a concern, as the X3100 should be able to handle it suitably.

Dropping back down to the Intel GMA X3100 will also boost your battery life. The nVidia card does suck some extra power. The poster above me was also right on the money about the 6-cell. It's an extra $29 for a backup battery, which is a GREAT deal if you plan on traveling.

    Good luck. ;)
