Is this a good price on a new Studio 1558? I bought a refurb in in another thread and was wondering if this new one is a better deal?

Thoughts, comments, sarcasm is welcome :)

#1. Make sure its Windows 7 64-BIT!!!! (must)
#2. 15 inch Laptop QUAD Core Core i7 720QM IS not a Good Option Why? because its 45nm and I guessing in a 15 model you need battery life and not 5 Cores, you ar emuch better off with a 32nm Core i5 with 2 Cores and 2 extra Threads total 4 Threads.

Try again, They are selling you a really bad really outdated CPU.

720QM is outdated? Really? I could've sworn it was just released about 8 months ago. Maybe it's a poor fit, but it's definitely not outdated.

720QM can be a good option if you need the processing power or need to run applications that multi-thread well, and are usually plugged in. On a 9-cell battery, it's easy to get at least 4 hrs with wireless and high brightness (I've yet to really test it). If it's going to be acting as a desktop replacement rather than a mobile platform, the 720QM is perfectly fine and more than competent (although it does run a tad hot).

    I am confused as well.

I thought i7 was the best bet if I wanted a powerhouse. I am going to be doing heavy gaming on it... should I go with something else instead?

This is replacing my Inspiron 1520 with 2.2ghz Core2Duo T7500 with NVIDIA Geforce 8600M GT.

Surely this new one should run light speed around my 2.5 year old laptop?

I had Vostro 1500 2.0 T7300 with GF 8600M GT so almost the same laptop.
Studio is much cooler specially when used on laps, CPU is much faster, display is much brighter, and system is lighter and has light feeling. The micro satin lid is great, no fingerprints at all, keypad backlight is ok even at day it looks nice. The ATI 5470 is little bit better than 8600M GT but there is not much difference in performance so don’t expect miracles in this area.
