I need to know asap, can I put a core 2 chip in a e1705 that shipped with a core duo? Can I upgrade to a 7900gs or gtx if it currently has integrated graphics? Please help!
    Thanks!

I belive that you can replace a Core Duo with a Core 2 Duo. As for the video card, no.

Someone please explain to me how the vid cards work with this model notebook. The motherboard is actually a diff model when it has onboard vid? Why would you not be able to put in a vid card?
    Thanks!

I believe you can replace the CPU from core to core 2 but if it's shipped in an integrate gpu you sol. If it's 7800 than, yes, you can upgrade to 7900 - different mobo

And finding a 7900GS or GTX can be a problem in supply and price. The 20W-7900GS works fine with a single pipe heat sink. The dual pipes from the XPS will fit our 1705's with a slight mod. Anyone actually get a price, new, from Dell? There are people selling “pulled” units on NBF.

yeas to core2, no to the vid card, if you have dedicated graphics you can use any card available for the system, if you start with integrated, your stuck with it, its a different board, the graphics chip is embeeded in the board and there is no dedicated card slot. Also note that high end notebook cards arent very easy to find, and when you do find them, it will cost you, a 7900gs will set you back around 350 to 450 aftermarket so your best bet is to get what you want first and just be done with it

i'm stuck with ATIX1400 and I hate it. Just because Dell ran out of stock on 7800.

Laptop mobo is different from Desktop, because they dont have extra space to put extra slot for upgrade video cards eh.
