can someone with the Intel 4500MHD graphics test this? thanks! :)

Reason why I need a quick reply by 3pm PST tomorrow is that after that time I'm going to send my Laptop to Dell for them to investigate the fan issue.

THE PROBLEM: fan turns on too often. tried undervolting, using arctic silver 5, switched from t9550 to p8400 already

THE FAVOR: if any of you 1555 owners can boot into the BIOS and stay in there for 5 minutes, can you just observe if teh fan goes off or not? Mine does, even after a cold boot (when i haven't used the laptop within the last hour).

    Thanks! :)

Just tried in mine, with p8600 and the fan goes on even in the bios, don't know if it's normal....

PS:i haven't done a "cold boot", i was using the notebook before the restart.

I have the P8600 and ATi 4570 (the 256MB flavor), and the fan really only comes on if I'm gaming, or running the laptop in a way that blocks the vents (e.g. on a bed or similar).

have you noticed exactly when your fan goes of, at what temp? even just regular web browsing does your temp increase over time or stay slowly increases until the fan goes off?

Mine seems to kick in around 45C, according to the RMClock system tray temp monitor, and usually stops around 39 or 40. I generally idle around 36C, which is well below the fan threshold.

interesting... mine kicks in around the mid 40s also and cools down to 28-30C, stops, and it slowly increases even with no activity.

Guys...keep an eye to the GPU temperatures....
The fan goes on or off dipending on the GPU temp, in mine when the GPU reaches 50-51C the fan goes on, than goes off when in reaches 45C.

The GPU temp are always higher than the CPU temp.

i'll pay attention tot he GPU for the next few hours. the temp doesn't increase much as it just hovers around 47-51C.

i'm not sure it might be the GPU though because when i leave the laptop on with the lid closed, it'll still spin the fan on and off following the same routine. the GPU shouldn't be working while the lid is closed right, i mean there's nothing to display?

Ok, after looking at the temp monitor I've noticed that the fan goes off when the GPU temp hits 51C, thanks MarkraM for pointing that out. Now I'm looking for ways to cool that GPU, although I don't think there's much that can be done since I've already applied Arctic Silver 5 on it. :/

Anyone with Intel 4500 graphics test this out yet?

Did you just apply AS5 between the GPU and heatsink, or did you put a copper shim between the two?

just the AS5, with the copper shim over the GPU, it elevates the heatsink contact with the GPU's memory chips.
