This is really pissing me off, it's my laptop. When I start it up everything is fine and working. I can see the Windows XP start up logo thing, but when everything is booted my screen goes black. I can see the pointer but everything is black.

I can start it up in safe mode fine and everything works. It's been working perfectly until this weird thing just started happening. I did just install a new game though, The Movies. I've played it a few times if that might have anything to do with it?

    Anyone have any idea?

    Thanks

Try (when it is at that black screen) hitting "Ctrl+Alt+Del"...that will pull up the Task Manager (hopefully). From there, hit "File" and start a new process "Explorer.exe"

    Maybe that will help?

Also, what notebook (and hardware specifications) do you have?

It's an E1505, lets see I have the x1400 duo core. One thing I noticed that I just thought of was the last time I played sometimes I had some black boxes in The Movies.

But no, I tried ctrl alt del, closing the laptop lid, everything I could think of. I hope my vid card didnt crap out.

Have you tried reinstalling the video driver?

Try booting into safe mode. If you can get their and see the screen, then uninstall and reinstall your video card driver. To test things out, i would use Dell's video card driver, and see if that loads normally. If it does and you want to change to a 3rd party driver, then you can test others at, but I would start with the dell first to test it.
