Hi I am buying two new laptops one for me one for my mom. Im a highschool student about to go into college so I looked for a thin and light one to take notes. I plan on bringing a desktop to college so performance isnt that much of an issue. Anyway I am stronlgy leaning towards the Latitude X1. The external drive I dont mind since I will just have image files on the computer if i need to use some CDs for some mild gaming (2d stuff like Warcraft, AoE etc).
Now the tricky part is with my mom. She doesnt need that much juice but she does want a built in microphone. I would like to spend as less as possible since she doesnt really need the power (she has been using a Latitude C400 for like the past 4 years lol), yet I would also like her to have a nice screen. Now does the B130 have a built in mic? And also how good is the screen? Either the B130 or the Inspiron 6000 (not the new one since i doubt she will ever tell 1 core from 2 core lol). Any suggestions are welcome. Im also looking outside of Dell.

I know the 6000 doesn't have a built in mic, and i'm pretty sure the B130 doesn't either. In fact, I don't think any of the Inspirons have a built in mic. There is a microphone port, but she'll have to buy an external microphone for it.

Metamorphical Good computer user
I looked completely threw the inspiron line and none of them have a internal mic. They do all have microphone ports as SG said. If you want a built in microphone. You'll either have to look at the lattitude line or another brand. If you want, please fill out the 'What should I buy? FAQ' listed at the 'What should I buy?' forum and we'll help you find something that meets all requirements. =)

For college work, I would recommend the ASUS W5v or the W5j, its got all the features, especially the web cam which can help you a lot in taking notes. All ASUS notebooks have built in microphone.
For your mom, ASUS A3E is recommended. It has also a webcam that you talk to your mom face to face whilst she is at kitchen and you are in college any time.
I have nothing against Dell laptops, in fact I have used 2 Dell laptops, they are all running fine and value for the money I spent on them. -
Non of the inspirions have built in mic -
My friend was actually using MSN messenger last night and she found out that her computer (the Inspiron 600m, i think. whichever one has the blue buttons) had a built in microphone. It was a little hole by the power button. I haven't seen one on mine (the 1150), but maybe others have a built in mic we don't know about?

Yes, the old Insprion 600m has a mic. I think it is the only one that does.
Need some suggestions
