    Hi all
I got my new vostro 1500. I tried connecting to my wireless network, and i am unable to connect. I tried with another unsecured network. it gets connected but i am unable to browse internet. I went to cmd prompt and chkd for ipconfig , its not displaying any ip for my wireless network. Also i didnt see my wireless light lighting when switched on. I can see the available networks which means the wireless is working fine. but i am unable to connect to wireless networks and do web browsing.

please help me if i am doing anythng wrong.

Try turning off your security software and see if you can get through the websites. Also try checking in safe mode with networking.

also check this out, very helpful. :)

Hi Vishnu. Out of the box my vostro 1500 could not connect to my wireless router (DLink 524), the ssid was also intermittently reported as blank. I upgraded to the latest intel driver and now it works flawlessly.

Anyways I will try that option also. At my home the broadband connection is Orange Livebox ( I hope it uses the latest configuration router, may be Dlink 524 Gen).

Also i am gonna try at my friends house who bought along with me and successfully connected to his network. Anyways i will keep you guys posted on this. But please do post me all the possible try out.

I know its really gonna be pain in A** to get the item repalced :(

    Regards
    Vishnu

Connect your machine through your nic card so you can get on the internet. If you have Dell's PC tune-up utility installed, you should get a pop-up box down in the service tray listing driver upgrades (bios, CD-ROM, wireless, etc...) for your particular model, that they suggest you download.

I had to do that with a friend's Inspiron the other day. Worked like a charm.

    It shouldn't be that hard.

If you have access to a broadband connection, just plug in a CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the back of your laptop, reboot the machine and let DHCP resolve the IP. Just make sure your wireless connection is turned off so there won't be any conflict and if need be, turn off Windows Firewall temporarily through Control Panel.

Once you do that, Dell's PC utility should kick in automatically and tell you what you need to upgrade on your machine. If it doesn't, then you can manually open Dell's PC utilities and click on the check upgrades button and force it. You might also get Windows Automatic updates if it's set to (automatically) turn on.
