So I ordered a M1530 on the 25th and have no clue when I will actually get it (obviously)

Now I want to use my machine for mostly work, like Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver.. That sort of thing. I do like to play the occasional game, mostly TF2...

Now I am wondering, since I got the 40% discount should I just pop this thing on ebay right away for profit and order a Inspiron 1720? I am slightly concerned the 15" wont cut it very well for doing work.

I also think maybe the T9300 that I got is overkill and I could stand to step it down a notch for doing work without much noticeable difference.

How do the screens compare between the two and if I go with an 8600GT in the 1720 will it run games like TF2 fairly well? The way I understood it from reading other posts online was that all 8600GTs @ 256mb were DDR3, but it seems that is wrong and the 1720 is still a DDR2?

What do you guys suggest? Machine I ordered:

XPS M1530, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300
Midnight Blue Casing With Microsatin Finish
    4GB, DDR2
15.4 inch Wide Screen WXGA+ TrueLife LED LCD with Camera
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
160G 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive Free Fall Sensor
    Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
    3 Year Limited Warranty (OnSight)

No, the video card, not system RAM. :)

They had a sale last week, was 40% off the default config, which equated to $749 off. :)

My total price with tax was $1649

Anyone have any insight on the 1720? Think I can make a fairly decent bit selling the 1530?

You can make money selling the M1530. However, if you think the M1530's Penryn processor is overkill, then getting an M1730 to replace it doesn't make much sense. The M1730 is a gaming rig and you pay a LOT of money for stuff that it sounds like you don't need.

Hrrm. So with him paying $1650, he could sell it and make a few dollars?

I got the same system, but black, and with the 1680x1050 LCD, 250GB 7200RPM HDD, and Intel Wifi N for $1400. I know it was overkill for what I do...but it was one hell of a price. I toyed with the idea of selling it and making a few dollars and getting something else, like an HP.

You can certainly make money. How much, nobody knows. But the fact is that any knowledgeable person would at LEAST slash off something like 30% of the base price even from a new system. So you're not making a ton of money. I'm not trying to prevent or persuade you from doing it -- I'm just saying it's not like you're going to make like $300 even. So is there really a point?

Besides the point of selling it I am wondering if it will be better to use the 1720 for Photoshop work instead. Also wondering how well the 1720 8600GT does in games, is it the DD2 version?
