    Hi all,

I am a college student and I'm enrolled in some classes for the spring term which I will need a laptop for. Considering that I am going to spend anywhere from 500 to 900 dollars for a laptop just for school; I have decided to go a step further. My desktop is about 5 yrs old and I will need to replace it soon, so I've decided that I will buy a laptop for school that will also replace my desktop.

I really like the dell XPS1530 2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz, 160GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive.

I will be using this computer for school work, watching movies, surfing the net, light gamming and, for storing my 3,100 music files. Now I went to dell and I see the laptop is about 1,700 with the specs I want and I'm wondering if Dell will be coming out with a new models in the next 2-3 months?

I know the XPS1530 has been out for a while and I don't want to spend 1,700on an older laptop when I can hold out and get a newer model in a couple of months. I'm also intrested if there is any specials or discounts you guys know about for the Dell laptop because I hear people get Dells with these specs for about 1,200... and I would really appreciate if anyone could help me out saving a couple of bucks!

So do you guys think dell is a good computer for what I need? And is there a new Dell model coming anytime soon I should hold out for?

Your opinions are greatly appreciated, Thanks guys!

Actually, the XPS1530 just barely came out. It is the XPS1330 that has been out for a while. The 1530 is a nice laptop IMHO.

For discounts, there usually seem to be coupons and deals going on fairly regularly. I'd keep an eye out at slickdeals.net.......

Bottom line is it seems to be a great machine, but just make sure you get a discount if you go for it. However, you should note there are also *better* choices in the 15.4" category IMHO....

    Actually......see this slickdeal link:

Certainly....you should post in the what notebook to buy section as well and follow the FAQs you will gets lot of responses.

Off the top of my head, two come to mind:

    1) HP 8510p
    2) Lenovo T61p

I looked at those two extensively when I was looking to buy a new laptop about 3 months ago. The nice thing about that is they have great build quality, which is handy when you are lugging the notebook back and force between school.

If you wait for the right times, you can get a pretty good deal on the Lenovo as well....just some things to think about........that slickdeal I posted though is pretty good, for that price, I'd be looking at the Dell.

Like I said, post in the what notebook should i buy section, people are really good at helping other out. :)

But it needs to stay under 1,700.. can't afford anything more.

Cool. I don't know why they don't have WSXGA+ as an option off the bat. Best resolution for a 15.4" screen IMHO. :)
