Ok so here is my issue-

I myself have an old celeron powered inspiron 1300, 2 gig ram-upgraded myself :) and an old onboard Intel 900 series gfx, yada, running windows xp...it runs on the web very quickly- but its on its last legs, powers on and off, screen flutters, it overheats ,etc.

    So my gf and I ordered a refurb studio 15 with the 2.2ghz T6400, 4 gig ram, 320, etc...vista 32bit.

Now, from the start vista runs like crap. It stalls even opening the control panel- that stupid swirling blue circle. Firefox stalls. I have to force close apps from the task manager multiple times and that does not work.

The web also drops out as well. I run directly from my cable modem, no router, and have a loose jack on the cable- it would fall out on the 1300 and I could plug it back in no prob w/o restarting firefox or web based apps...no can do in vista- sometimes I have to even log off and log back in my user prof (admin).

Is it because I am running 32 bit Vista on a high end 64 bit machine?

If I downgrade to 64 bit XP does dell have driver support?
The hardware appears to be all working fine, the vista experience control panel gives me solid performance rankings.

    It's not Vista.

Have you tried installing Vista from scratch? The computer probably came with loads of bloatware on it.

There is not that much bloatware- not as much as with a new system, anyway--- then again the settings might be all off-- permissions everywhere, etc...I am hoping this is not a hardware issue--- we ordered an XPS 1335 earlier this year (new) and spent 8 hours on the phone over the course of 3 days trying to get an RMA - the onboard 802.11 wasnt working consistently...

now she thinks I broke it or I dont know what I am doing...$700 later I feel like a douche!

If I re-install vista, what version should I use (I have access to all through work)

If you have access to all and since you have plenty of disk space, I would install Vista Ultimate.

    Agreed: 64-bit Vista Ultimate.
