Has anybody heard whether Dell is planning to release a new 13" Studio XPS/Studio? I need a new laptop by Augustish and was hoping they were planning to release something, preferably with optimus/graphics switching and i5/i7 processors

Last I checked, Dell couldn't fit the processors and graphics they wanted into the 13 due to heat or something. It's a shame that they would leave the premium 13 inch space to Apple, so hopefully I'm proved wrong. :)

Well they did it with the Vostro 3300 but it is still not a great Apple competitor.

I wish Dell would release a new 13" Studio XPS/Studio laptop.

I am looking to replace the old E1505 that I loved for so long with another Dell around August.

There was some discussion about it a couple of months ago when the XPS13's were being discontinued and disapprearing from Dells websites. They were completely redesigning the 13. They were talking 6 months for a redesign. I would guess we won't see the new 13" before the fall, probably Q4.

It can't be seriously THAT hard to redesign...Just copy what other companies are doing... AHHH wish I could get a Dell in 13".

Indeed, if Sony can do it I don't see why everyone else is having so much trouble. Especially since the ODMs do most of the work anyway.

Maybe because if done the Sony way you'd have to pay $2k? And that Inspiron is ugly, it has the Mini 10 and Latitude V13/Vostro 13 butt.

SXPS 13 disappeared from Dell site, so I'm guessing new one will be introduced soon.

From photo's, it definitely looks more subtle than the "butt" on the Mini's.

Yep. And they said it would be six months from then before we saw a new one.

So six months would make it August? September? July? June? Can you specify please.

It may not be the Sony way, but Acer intends to do something similar for much less than $2k in the very near future. Actually, aren't you the one who alerted us here at NBR to that?

Seriously, how hard can it be to pack an Arrandale CPU and a GPU somewhere between low end and midrange into a 13" laptop?
