I was going to get one but after reading the review on NBR i'll pass lol. I think the current Vostro's look and feel better than the new series. I decided to buy a Vostro 1500 instead of a Vostro 1510.

p.s. And the starting price is a lot higher than a typical Vostro 1500 or 1700 for that matter. :p

Yeah, you'll want to get a Vostro 1400 with the 14" screen instead because the size/weight are almost the same.

Has anyone heard if the 1310, 1510 and 1710 will be added to the current Vostro lineup or are these lappy's replacing the 1400, 1500 and 1700 Vostro's?

even though these don't show up on dell's website you can use the following E value codes to order them:

    Vostro 1310: 65035-BQPC32A
    Vostro 1510: 65035-BQPC52A
    vostro 1710: 65035-BQPC72A

maybe the new mystery coupon 20 - 30% off will work on these new systems ?

Not trying to be a smart-ass but how does it seem hot?

Everybody in my office thinks their ugly and cheaper looking and I agree.

They're also more expensive than they should be it seems.

Dell just cut several thousand employees and this simply looks like another strategic move to cut corners.

Purchase is Not Intended for Resale
    High Definition Audio 2.0
    Intel Centrino Label
    Labels Windows XP®

    $1003+Tax

Not Bad for a new model that just came out.

ALSO: I want to point how Intel is marketing genius!!
In the processor section these are the options:

    Intel® Celeron M® 540 (1.86GHz, 1M L2 Cache, 533MHz FSB) [subtract $25]
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5670 (1.8GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [Included in Price]
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T5870 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $75]
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7250 (2.0GHz, 2MB L2 cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $175]
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T8100 (2.1GHz, 3MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $225]
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB) [add $475]

As you can see the T5670 is the best bang for the buck. Notice how both the T5870 -AND- the T7250 offer the same specs - 2Ghz 800fsb 2mb L2. Even worse, look at the price difference. I argue that the there's a visible difference on the T5670 over these two CPU's. Could the specs be a typo? Maybe...but the price doesn't lie. T5670 FTW and you won't notice a difference :)

I hate to disagree but those prices are bloody awful. When the Vostro 1500 was first introduced last year. I spec'd out Santa Rosa laptop with the following config:

    1.4GHZ CPU
    160GB HDD
    2GB of RAM
    Dual Layer DVD Writer
    128 meg nvidia card
    Windows XP Home

    $549

Yeah, the 1310 prices are comparatively very high compared to past and even current models. I'm surprised I haven't seen more complain about this. Every once in a while Dell seems to forget that people buy Dells for the price advantage, above all.

err, why? Why would anyone want an operating system for which there is no compatible software?

Maybe because it's a nice OS that does have compatible software.

And according to the preview, the 1310 has dreadful mono sound.
    http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4362

Not that the speakers in the M1330 are very good, but at least there are two of them, and from the preview, the speaker in the 1310 seems even worse quality.

Uhoh, now you went and done it.

I would take a linux laptop if it were $100 less than the Windows equivalent.

I don't understand people who say this. Any Linux user worth his salt will be able to easily install it. Man up and do it yourself.

Dell Canada now has a different Vostro 1310 deal.

Now only $449, but with lesser specs than the $549 deal.

I think people in the UK would prefer the US keyboard on the 1310 to the current UK keyboard. Who would want a keyboard where the Z is where the X should be, the X is where the C should be, the C is where the V should be, the V is where the B should be, the B is where the N should be, the N is where the M should be, the M is where the comma should be, etc. It would be much easier just to remember that the | and \ key is in a different place on the US keyboard than to have to train your fingers that a whole row of keys is different.
