I just got my new 1520 from DHL today and wanted to share my thoughts on it. I also currently have Inspiron 1501.

First off, here are the specs:

    Inspiron 1520, Intel Core 2 Duo T7500, 2.2GHz, 800Mhz, 4M L2 Cache
Jet Black Color with Matte Finish
    2gig DDR2, 667MHz 2 Dimm
High Resolution, glossy widescreen 15.4 inch display (1680x1050)
    256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    120G 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition
    8X DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive
Dell Wireless 1390 802.11g Mini Card
    Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy
85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery

    Looks:
Looks awesome. Much sexier then my 1501. Love the new keyboard layout compared to the 1501 and love the new mouse pad.

    Build quality:
When the screen is closed its a little bit wobbly. It Doesn't seem to fit snug against the laptop at each of the top corners. The screen latch also seemed a little bit cheaper quality then the 1501.
The extended battery was also a little loose.
A little on the heavy side. It may be because of the extended battery, but I really noticed it, again compared to the 1501.

    Video/screen:
I was really worried about the screen after reading so many complaints on this forum. The screen I got is AUO187B.

Using Vista - Absolutely beautiful. No graininess. No dead pixels. I can view this thing from any angle and see everything fine.

DVD movie - I popped in 300 to check it out. Again beautiful and a pleasure to watch. I actually couldn't shut it off. I have a 57" HDTV and yet I sat at my desk and watched the whole damn movie. Again, I could view the screen from every angle.

    Sound:
Wow the sound was great while watching 300. I was very surprised how loud this could get and still remain very clear.

    Gaming:
I haven't loaded any games yet so new real information here.

    Final thoughts:
I am really glad I upgraded to this laptop. I guess only time can tell how long it will hold up but so far it is really nice.

I know my little review wasn't as technical as many that I have seen but I just wanted to let people know that I am a very satisfied customer. Good luck on your purchases!

Heh, Guess it's all perspective. I got this after using an HP ZD8000 for 2 years. Compared to that, this thing's light as a feather.
