Hi, I should get my new 9400 delivered next week.

I've been reading that it's a good idea to get rid of all the stuff Dell put on there and do a Windows re-install.

Is this a good idea and if so, how do I do it?

It comes with Vista Premium, apparently.

Oh, I'll get the beers in because I'm new! :)

This is just one of many "how to" reinstall Windows threads. If your questions aren't answered in that thread, use the forums search and you'll find many more threads which should help.

it should be pretty straightforward, reinstalling vista that is, just pop in the disc, boot from it, and follow the instructions. That was actually the first thing I did when I got my lappy, before I even started it up.
