My M1210 should arrive any minute now. I just want to ask, do I have to charge my battery for 24 hours for the first time, meaning leaving it plugged in to an A/C power source for 24 hours?

I've never owned a laptop so bear with me on these noob questions at times.

What should I be doing on my laptop at first? Checking out LCD screen manufacturer, uninstalling bloatware (I think I'll reformat in the future when Vista comes), what else? lol...

    Thanks for your attention!

    1 unpack,
    2 check for obvious breakages
3 check for missing parts (including media)
4 follow the instructions that should come with it

and don't forget: enjoy your new rig and give us some feedback on what it's like!!! ;)

if you just want to get going with your new system just take the battery out and fire the laptop up from the mains.

you can always charge the battery over night or while you're at work etc. ...but i'm not sure if you still need to be this careful anymore with batteries

i know that i couldn't stand having a new laptop delivered and then having to wait till the battery has charged

True! but then I want to use it on my sofa and stuff man!!

Does it really matter to charge 24 hours immediately? I mean I will probably charge overnight tonight but I want to play with this baby first lol...

i believe that charging new batteries for 24 hours is not necessary. the instruction manual will tell you everything, i checked the manual for my nc8430 and absolutely nowhere does it say to charge a battery for 24 hours or charging it before i use it
