Do you guys think Dell will put the new Penryn CPU's in the 1420's?
Release date for the new CPU's is January 6, 2008.

Maybe. Maybe not.
-
I'm sure they will. Sometime after the release date, though.

It wont work cause i already have a penryn sample . New penryn CPU will use a refresh chipset , i dont know what it is but from my eexperience with the penryn it wont boot on current laptop of Dell or compal or asus.
-
Maybe they'll change or update the mobo/BIOS so that the penryns will be compatible.
-
New mobo pretty much means new model if you ask me.
-
This is not a good news for me. If this is true. I guess I'll have to hold for getting a new notebook for few more months.
-
They will use the new processors in current notebooks - if they use the same socket.
If they use the same socket, then it's as easy as a BIOS update, and everything is A.OK. -
I believe the white papers for Penryn stated that they'll be built on the same Core2Duo socket technology.
So I think current Dell owners are in luck if they're wishing to upgrade to a penryn chip later down the road. -
Thank you for confirming my theory
-
Yep, penryn will use socket p and will be compatible IF (that's a BIG if) Dell releases a BIOS update for your specific system to recognize the new processors....
-
*crosses fingers*
-
I'm sure Dell (including other manufacturers) already has the BIOS ready to go since they probably get a sample from Intel few months before the release date.
-
did you try with socket P laptop?
-
I realize OnlyCurious was asking only about the Inspiron 1420 being updated for the Penryns, but it may interest him to know that there are rumours that the Inspiron 1520 will be replaced by the 1525 in December (I would say January more likely).

Why don't they replace the 1420's at the same time?
-
Perhaps the headphone noise problem was worse on the 1520 than the others. Then again, perhaps they will replace the 1420 too, but I have not seen any rumours about that.
-
whatever man... let's wait if they gonna release bios update or a complete fresh mobos comes with it. remember that they want to make sales not upgrade so chances of making new models for new chipset is possible and people will beforce to buy it.
EDIT: yes i did try with compal FL90 , Asus z37S, Dell 1420. -
thanks, this indicates 1400 has no chance to use penryn with current bios.
-
it's socket p rather than m.

Thanks for correcting me. My post has been edited.....
