    Hey all --

Just got my new D630 w/ the nVidia card up and running and I have some issues with the screen. FYI, I have researched the threads on color calibration, and have not come across the answer to this.

The text appears pretty blurry. I am using the WXGA+ monitor and did not really expect this. Things just aren't as sharp as they should be. Granted, I used a WUXGA 15.4" monitor previously, but still compared to the 12.1 WXGA monitor I use, this looks very fuzzy.

I have opened the NVIDIA control panel to try and mess around w/ the contrast and brightness settings, but am not really sure what to do. Also, I have searched for color calibration software (freeware), but am not sure which to use. Does anyone have advice? I am using Vista Ultimate btw...

Since you mentioned fonts the first thing that came to mind was ClearType, a method of smoothing fonts on LCD screens. I have no idea if this is in Vista or not, and if it's just that EVERYTHING looks fuzzy this probably won't help much, but if it's just the fonts, try this:

Right click on your desktop and click Properties then click on the Appearance tab at the top. Click on the box in the lower right labeled "Effects" and under "Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts" play around with the options, either Standard or ClearType or uncheck the box and see what looks best. Otherwise, good luck.

Thanks for the suggestion... I gave that a shot but didnt' seem to help.

Everything really looks washed out. I think it's a contrast issue...

Also, even with 2GB of RAM, 2.0 GHZ processor, and the NVIDIA card, things seem pretty sluggish using Aero. Has anyone turned Aero off to help w/ this?

Sorry for the repeat posts -- but it really seems to be a contrast issue. Even when I initially started up w/ XP before running the clean install of vista, it appeared blurry

I'm really hoping to fix this washed out issue...

EDIT: Perhaps this has something to do w/ ClearType??

Try reinstalling your OS, it might fix all your problems. :)

I know latitude line does not have a lot of bloatware, but it still helps.
