    Hello,

This was a much needed up grade from my 5 yr old Compaq Evo N800C which still runs fine. Im a college student on a tight budget and i was able to get the 820 at a VERY good price.

    T7200 2.0
    2GB
    80GB 7200RPM

My question is can i upgrade the graphics card myself or would this be impossible? i would like to bump it up to the 120M or better

And would you recommend running Vista on it?

No, you cannot upgrade the graphics and stick with XP. Unless there is a feature in Vista that you cannot do without and not available in XP (pretty hard to find), there is no reason to deal with the driver and compatibility issues involved with moving to Vista right now.

i got a vista home premium from a friend that just got an XPS Desktop and i installed it with no problems. windows update took care of all the driver issues. i'm just wondering if i will be loosing some performance due to Vista rather than sticking with XP?

I have found Vista to be very stable. It can load frequently used programs amazingly quick. The more you use it, the more Vista will tailor itself to fit your usage patterns. Sure it requires more horsepower, but the benefits are growing with each passing day. My vote is Vista.

Vista is also ok by my book. I'm putting it through it's paces, keeping it without restarts for long periods of time. Stable OS, much much better than when XP came out.

I have also observed as dbam987 has - the more you use it, the more it knows which programs you like most. It seems to know which programs/files you like most, and keep that in memory, evidenced by limited reads from the hard drive.
