Just received my laptop today..![]()
Let me know if anyone wants to see pictures of the laptop... It's the Ruby Red model. My setup is in my signature.
If not, I'm going to continue packing for my move tomorrow. I'll check back here in a couple of hours.

Reviews of the display.

pictures of the red would be great
-
Display does not look grainy at all... except when I close the laptop lid and reopen it and it loads in a lesser resolution... is there a fix for this?
Anyway, no graininess, it looks really nice. I am very pleased so far and after seeing and feeling the red top I would never have gone with any other colorAttached Files:

red looks nice, now i wish i went with that option. Then again at the rate dell is going, i'll never even have a laptop
-
The red is sexy, but I'm still happy with the blue.

Is the chassis plastic, or magnesium alloy, like the vostro.
-
Awesome. Great color.
-
It's a really hard plastic I think... Dunno. -
How's your case? I'm thinking about getting one for my Black 1420...did you get the 14" one or 15" one?
-
Are the palm rests warm when just browsing/watching tv shows/movies? Is Dell making their Inspirons now with better screens after all the complaints?
-
I honestly couldn't say if they are making them better. I've had my laptop on for over an hour on my lap yesterday and I can say without hesitation that the heat gets no where close to how hot my old D600 (1.6 Pentium M) used to get.
Ultimately, the laptop feels extremely solid. The surfaces do feel as though they are made of magnesium alloy but i can't say for sure. The red top feels amazing... overall, I am 100 percent confident that this laptop will be durable enough to lug to class everday when I start med school in a couple of weeks.
I am very happy that I went with the 1420 as opposed to the 1520... I wouldn't want the laptop to be much bigger than this due to my need for portability. Make no mistake about it though, the 1420 is not a "ultra lightweight" laptop. It has some heft, but that makes me comfortable bc it feels like I can really use and abuse this laptop! In addition, the panels have very little flex. Ultimately, it feels very sturdy and has a quality feel.
One minor annoyance is that the side of my fingers get caught under the keys every few minutes. I have very fat fingers tho haha...
Anyway, you won't be dissapointed with this laptop and I think it is more solid and better-looking than the competing HP which I have seen in stores. -

What kind of wireless card did you get, the intel one? If so, is it good?

It is not micro satin like the other colors and easily attracts finger prints...
If you want something close to black go with the "Espresso Brown".
I personally went with the "Midnight Blue" which is also fairly dark.

just unscrew all those latches on the bottom of the computer, you should see its all metal in there. -

Most of the heat is directed toward the left rear of the unit...
Even given this, it runs cooler than my older Inspiron 6000.
As far as screens, all of the "grainy" problems seem to be relegated to the glossy screens... My anti-glare screen looks fine.

Hey, Mr. Laptop Questions...read what I posted. I have a 1420, that is the black non-micro finish - I was asking about the CASE.
