    Hello everyone !

Here's my problem : my chromebook died last week, so I'm looking for a new laptop, and this model seems fine to me, but I haven't see anything clear about one thing : the battery life. I need (for school) a laptop with a great battery life, around 7 hours with one charge. My usage is basic : microsoft office, and a bit of surf on the internet. I'm not looking for performance, I won't do anything that require a beast of processor.
    Here's the link : http://www.dell.com/fr/p/inspiron-1...piron-13-5368-2-in-1-laptop#overrides=cn53601:

I would buy the first configuration, with the i3 processor.

What do you think guys ? Is it good ?

I like the looks of the new Inspiron 13 5000, very sleek. TO me it looks like it would fit your needs, but according to Trusted Reviews the battery life is close to about 7 hours but you'd have to have the screen brightness set to about half (if you're inside a darkened room, that wouldn't be a problem):

    http://www.trustedreviews.com/dell-...w-battery-life-performance-and-verdict-page-2

    To quote the review:

This laptop just about delivers the sort of battery life that's typical of hybrid devices. Most struggle to quite last a working day and so it is here, with the 5368 only managing 6 hours 26 minutes in our PowerMark test – set to 40% screen brightness, with a loop of 10 minutes of web browsing and 5 minutes of video. In comparison, thin and light conventional laptops can push 8 hours or more.
The review also mentions the screen is somewhat lacking, it has a grainy effect and somewhat dim. If you're not picky about the screen and that 6.5 hours of battery is enough juice for you, then I'd still consider it. The looks of the laptop are nice and it seems to be priced well for the configurations available.

Thank you for your replie !

I saw this review too, but apparently the model tested is the i7 one, so I was wondering if the i3 (far less powerful compared to the i7) model do a better job with battery life ?

Sorry I missed the fact they had a Core i7 in the review unit. Your are right, with a Core i3 you could expect slightly better battery life. The Core i7 in the review unit was a ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) variety so it was still pretty power efficient and rated at the same TDP of 15, but it had a higher clock rate of up to 3.1GHz. Given you would have a Core i3 and in the review they noted that playing video was part of the test cycle, it would seem feasible to get the 7 hour battery life you need on a Core i3 version if you were just using simple programs. You could also do things like use Windows power saver mode and ad blockers (to prevent Flash ads and processor hungry multimedia ads from loading) to help battery life.

I'm getting between 7 and 9 hrs of battery life with my 13/5000 model I have....depends on screen brightness!
