Hello, new to this forum and purchasing of a laptop. Having a Dell desktop before I knew I wanted the laptop to be a Dell. We don't do any heavy gaming just needed it for surfing the net, emails and basic home duties. This laptop will rarely leave the home. Was just browsing the outlet not thinking I would see anything when this came up. It basically has everything I wanted at what I thought was a decent price.
Dell Inspiron 1721 in Ruby Red
AMD Turion 64 x 2 TL.56
2GB DDR2 SDRAM 667 MHz
120 GB Sata Hard Drive
1390 Wireless Card
8X +/- w dbl layer write capability
McAfee Security 36 months
90 w AC adapter
WXGA+ Truelife Glossy Notebook Screen
ATI Radeon Xpress 1270 Hypermemory
price for the system was $599
I may have a friend upgrade the hard drive for me. For a 17 inch screen and with these specs is this a good price? I can still cancel at this point and continue looking. Your opinion on this forum is appreciated.

This is a good price for a 17". I would pull the trigger if you like it.
-
dude you got a dell..(i had too....really)..at a sweet price!
600 for thats pretty awesome.
IMO ofcourse.
is it a refurb? -
That's a very good deal for those specs. But make sure that it is not a "scratch and dent" machine. You never know how bad it is damaged. But the other two (refurbished and returned as new) are fine.
-
make sure its not off-lease also
-
Thank you for the responses. I believe it is a refurb and not a off lease or a scratch and dent. I am going to go ahead and pull the trigger. I believe there is a 21 day return policy on outlet purchases.

yeah thats a good deal i would. thats actually a really good deal.

I bought mine from the oulet at a great price also as a refurb and I could not tell the thing wasnt new. I now have 2 laptops that I purchased from the outlet and both are great.

Based upon many comments, it appears the outlet is the proverbial "luck of the draw" as it relates to physical condition.
I just purchased a M1330, which was marked as "Scratch & Dent" - it is flawless, with no cosmetic defects observable. -
@ bealzabubba
does ''scratch and dent'' applies only to a chassis, a keyboard and a screen ?
what if it's a harddrive that's scratched or a Ram stick that's dent -
dent & scratch will only be cosmetic damage! Nothing serious. -
Be careful while buying from an Outlet. My neighbor had a hard time getting things work after her notebook smoked. Dell was very rude to her. My mechanic had a good deal though! So it is a hit or a miss!

I've purchased A LOT from the Outlet, and have been happy with everything but one or two items that weren't tested very well before they were resold.
Generally, everything is like new and at a great price. I've found that the pricing isn't always the same. There are times when the prices are excellent and times when the prices are ho-hum...
Whenever i've had a problem, though, Dell Support is always the best. Never had a complaint with them.
My Vostro 1700 (see my sig) was the sweetest deal so far!! -
lancorp, looks like you received a excellent deal on that Vostro 1700, was it a scratch and dent or a refurb? I am hoping my 1721 will be the luck of the draw instead of a large paperweight.
