    Hi Everyone,

I just want to wet your appetites for the new Dell XPS2 that is coming out in March. This is seriouly going to be one sick notebook.

I have been given these details from a friend and the rough notebook specs are:

    - NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra
    - Customizable Lights in 3 different areas on the Notebook
    - Customizable Cover option kit (Design your own picture to keep on the top of the notbook) - This is really sick [ :D]
    - 10/100/1000 Intergrated NIC
    - 533 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 RAM
    - Pentium 4
    - 17" Screen

This baby should be out mid march.

is the i9300 the same as the XPS2? or are they totally different notebooks? or is it just that the i9300 is out in other countries and the XPS2 is out in the USA?

Wow, the XPS2 is really ultra-ausome looking! And its portable too, actually being based on Pentium M/Centrino Sonoma instead of P4. Thats ausome too. The coloring is really nice, really nice indeed, but it should come with a TV Tuner if its offering Media Center Edtion.

Is the drive modular, or fixed like the other models that use its case design/type? Also, I do know the XPS2 offers Media Center Edition 2005 OS, but does it offer optional TV Tuner (I'm guessing it does, that would be the logical thing to do), and does it have the "Dell Media Direct" thing (I'm guessing same here too), as PC Mag described the 9300 would have?

anybody know if the top cover that is shown in that picture is the standard one or one of the custom options cause that cover really doesn't catch my interest in fact right now its the only thing keeping me from configuring an xps2.

I think there are more choices for the cover art, I don't think you have to use that one.

Been waiting on a compaq x6000 now for a month and I think I may just cancel and pick this one up now...wont arrive till april but waht the hell its lighter and even far superior to the compaq. Just hard to cough up the dough even with corporate discounts. Think 2100 is too much compared to 1500 for the x6000 compaq? ;)

Is this using the same screen as the 9200? Worried about encountering the grief Ive heard with that display on this new system.

I have also found out that the XPS 2 has Customizable Lights in 3 different areas on the notebook (speaker grilles, the side air vents, and the back of the display).

You can select from a variety of colors and color intensities, and the color for each zone can be set independently of the other.

The following colors are available for the system LED's.

    - Off
    - Ruby
    - Citrine
    - Amber
    - Peridot
    - Emerald
    - Jade
    - Topaz
    - Tanzanite
    - Aquamarine
    - Sapphire - Factory Default
    - Iolite
    - Amethyst
    - Kunzite
    - Rhodolite
    - Coral
    - Diamond

You can also have the Top cover of the LCD customized. You will need to buy a kit to do this and then you can put 8.5" x 11" pictures in there.....I think this is awesome!!![8D] Its about time computer companies let you customize their notebooks.

    I can't wait.

The 9300 and the XPS2 are one and the same. The XPS2/9300 are going to have the same relationship as the XPS/9100. If you don't believe me, look at the facts: 1. The XPS2 looks like the 9200, and it is the right size and speed for a replacement for the 9200. 2. If you were Dell, what would you do, save money and use a common design for 2 PCs, or design 2 different PC's? I think the answer is obvious.

    Inspiron 8600 * WUXGA * Intel Pentium M (Dothan) 725 (1.6 GHz) * 1024 MB of DDR333 * Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo with 128 MB @ 350/250 * 60 GB HD 5400RPM * CDRW/DVD Combo Drive

I never thought I'd see the day, but I'm going to take the plunge and get one of these. Never expected to see a flagship gaming notebook sport a Pentium M so this thing's actually transportable unlike the 12 pound bricks. Not to mention all the other perks...

    My Configuration

    17" WUXGA Screen
    Pentium M 560
    NVIDIA GeForce Go 6800 Ultra
1 GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM
    60 GB 7200 rpm
    CD Burner
Whatever the best wireless choice was

    Original Price: $3200
    After all Discounts: ~$2450

This is really a steal IMO. Hope this works out as well as it sounds on paper. Does anybody know if the Dell Direct stores have sample models on display right now? (not for purchase)

Buddyd, at the PC Magazine review, there are pictures of it and it shows one where there is a program (which I'm assuming comes with it) where you can change the colors, simply by moving the bars across the color choices or something like that.

Sorry Madaxel, but the XPS2 Does not have a Pentium 4 processor.

This link shows the product highlights of the XPS2:

    http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_xps2?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~ck=mn

It clearly shows that the XPS2 uses the Pentium M.

This processor and chipset combination use a 533mhz Front Side Bus.

The Front Side Bus speed for a Pentium 4 system would be 800mhz, as shown in the product highlights of the first generation XPS:

    http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_xps?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

You are correct to state that the i9300 and the XPS2 are not eactly the same system. There are a few key differences:

The i9300 will not have the "ULTRA" GeForce Go 6800, and the case will be more like the i9200. And finally, no fancy lights to drain battery life.

    let the saving begin...

stack those coupons and get it 4 cheap!!!

or wait until it's on outlet and stack it again w/ coupon for rock bottom price...

u can always count on dell coupons...

seriously... it's a big improvement to go to pentium M and making it lighter...

however, it can still be lighter and thinner... like the progress so far... xps3 will be da bomb 4 sure by this progression trend...

Are coupons actually working on the Dell Home site for the XPS2? I always get an exclusion notice.

I purchased it through EPP but I want to make sure I get the best deal since Dell has such a variety of prices for the exact same items.

I wish they put the lights on the keyboard [:I] When I am using my 8600 in the dark, I sometimes pull the screen forward to see the keyboard... because I can't touch type [)] I think I'll wait a while to see what the 9300 is.... If it is just the case and the ultra GPU that is different, I'll probably go with the 9300 as long as the 1920 x 1200 pixel resolution is an option.
