Im looking for a new laptop for college, and I keep coming back to the same brand: Dell. I just can't bring myself to buy another brand. I don't really like any of the current laptops they offer, so I was wondering about how often they introduce new models?

First off, welcome to the forums, secondly I'm not really sure, it's fairly often as computer technology moves rather quickly. Maybe we could find you something better if you like you could fill out the FAQ and we could find something that'd fit what you need.

The D620 will come out this Wednesday and I'll have a review on it if you wish to wait until then and see how the new generation of Dell machines look . Here's a PDF you can reach http://www.dell.com/downloads/emea/products/Latitude_D620_06-03.pdf covering the D620. The Core Solo price will start at about $1,100 and I think the Core Duo will be within your budget. I much prefer the look of the new D620 over the D610, it is a bit heavy at 6.3lbs for a 14", but overall a thumbs up.

The D610 would probably fill all your needs, but there are several better notebooks out there that are better. Why don't you take a look at the Compaq Presario V2000Z, it's well under your budget, will fill all your needs, and save you some money as well.

just curious where you're getting 6.3lbs. That pdf said 2.27kg with 6 cell and optical drive. Thats real close to 5lbs.

It's dedicated. It should be fine for light gaming, but is intended for business use.
