Interesting. I received a new Dell Mailer for August 2007 (32 pager!) and it has 2 page laptop ads for the 1420, 1521 and 1721. No ads for the 1520 or 1720. The only mention is the small print in the middle where there are a couple of configs. Definately no emphasis on those 2 units.....

Anyone else think that is interesting?

I think it has to do with the price. Looking on the website, there's a 1521 and 1721 that have the lowest starting price.

Wouldn't you think their hottest (yet slowest) item would get the full treatment.. since they dont care about our delays anyways!

No, I wouldn't think that. You know who buys a computer from a newspaper insert? Your grandma. They have to dump the AMD chips on someone. Thankfully, grandma doesn't play FPS games...

Yeah I noticed the add with my company's EPP program. I thought I was going to have to pick my jaw up off the floor. Discounted again? Oh great. There goes my delay time.

It's advertising. Generally it's the price that first grabs people's attention. You can compare the Dell ad to a car ad. Dealers usually advertise the lowest priced model of a particular car to grab people's attention. Potential buyers will then come down to the lot to check things out, where, of course, there are a lot more cars to choose from. Hopeful that makes sense. So, the point is, to get people to see what they have to offer, they advertise what they think will grab people's attention.
