I would assume that you can upgrade it, but you'll probably have to request the disc from dell and reinstall it. The only part that I'm not sure about is if you have MD on your system now and install the new one, if you have to delete the old one first. If you really want to do this, I would recommend using Norton Ghost to make a copy of your HDD, then delete the old MD HPA and reformat because you'll need to leave 1.5gb of space to install the need MD.

That's just my theory on it.

I sent Dell an e mail about it. I have had my E1505 for all of three weeks and asked them if it were possible to acquire an upgrade disk. As soon as I hear anything, I'll post the response...

I called dell yesterday and was on the phone for one hour trying to tell the dell rep where on dell it talks about the new mediadirect, after he failed to find it he said this isnt technical related and I need to talk to the sales department in the morning. I was kinda upset.

I got no satisfactory answer from Tech support nor Customer Service from Dell. Seems that the new version is NOT available via CD / DVD at this time. They are more than willing to send me the version on my machine...but can't predict when the new version will be available

well i Emailed them and asked if it was possible for me to get the MediaDirect 3.0 cd with instant access to office and such
they replyed the next day confirming my request for the media direct 3.0 CD to be delivered to me,
and yesterday i received confirmation of the CD being sent out
so in 2-4 days i should see if its 3.0 or 2.0
if its 2.0, back on the complaining i go!

I just received a reply from Tech Support...supposedly sending me a backup CD of v2. But when I check the order...it's for Sonic MyDVD Deluxe and Sonic Media Deluxe...somehow...I don't think they understood what I was talking about. If at first you don't succeed...try try again!

I just received an overnight DHL package. Inside was Dell Media Direct 3.1 and a manual on how to re-install it. I have had my E1505 since 10/2...How can I tell what version came in my machine. Turned off the laptop...went into Dell Media Direct and under help...there is no "About"...so I can't tell the version.

Also in the package...they sent me a backup of Cyberlink Power DVD 5.5 and a utilities disk...

    Nice touch!

u can use 4shared to upload the image and also u can create a image using Nero by selecting image recoreder rather than ur dvd/cd writer but this would create a .nrg instead of a .iso which is basically the same but .nrg is specialized for nero which most people have.

    np...

I don't want to partake in anything if it is wrong!

If it is not possible...then my suggestion would be to call Dell and request the Media Direct 3.1 CD with installation manual. It explains how to repair / install on a clean HDD as well. Dell did not seem to opposed to sending these out...

To anyone who got there 3.1 disc:
Did they tell you before you got it that it was the new one?
or did they say they are sending you "the cd which is available on your computer"?

REP:I will send you this media direct, it will also have some paper work which will tell you how to use it.
ME: and it is the new version, 3.1?
REP:I do not have the information about the version. I am sending you the cd which is available on your computer.

I was told that I would receive the most updated one. The only problem there was that the tech wasn't sure if version 3 was available on DVD, yet. I imagine that they are only going to ship out the most up to date version. Time will tell

Just chatted with Dell. Guy said he had a lot of requests for 3.1, but would send me out what he could. He said that there was no option to send any certain version, so he'd send what he could. We'll see!

I think it's totally legal because the program doesn't request serial or activation. Waiting for the good news from you!

I'll try again right now for MD3.
    Wish me luck!

ALSO: For those who already got their 3.1's, what was the item number on the packing slip?

If you have the MD 3.1 disk...it also came with instructions. There are two ways...first make sure the HDD is blank

Then you boot into the 3.1 disk and it gives you two options.

    1. You can tell it that you want to use the entire C drive for OS and data...and it will partition accordingly

    2. You can tell it how much space you want to allocate.

    I think I'd choose option 1

The Disk has yet to come, i'm redoing the machine rite now, i left 1308 meg for media direct. I saw the number somewhere else as the number it needs. If it doesnt work, then ill just do it again. its not that hard to redo a machine.

I wiped my brand new E1505 that has the latest Media Direct on it (with instant office). Well, had anyway. They told me it was on the apps disc. But obviously its not.

Dell is sending me P/N DH371 - which appears to be 2.0 from this thread. But they say that's not the case, that they send out the latest. Anyone who got 3.1, can you confirm if it was this part number or something else?

Also, does the media direct DVD include the dell media experience software? I think that is needed for MCE decoding functionality (though I guess any DVD decoder will work, would be nice to get this back how it was). Its not showing up as a line item in the 6 discs they're sending

From what I've read 1308 won't be enough, it won't install. Looks like minimum is 1500, and dell told me for the latest, leave 2048.
