Yeah Bob, thanks. This will be a great help.
By the way, why is it that all of my emails to technical support are being met with this response:

Is anybody else getting this?
-
Try contacting customer care, that who i talked to when i got my MD discs, unfortunatly, they were the wrong version :-(
-
NH806 is Media Experience not Media Direct. I rec'd this CD last week with my MD2 Reinstall Disc.
Were there any other Part numbers on the invoice? (Mine had YJ638 (MD2) and NH806 (DMX 3.1))
Router-Dude -
I fully anticipate posting a disappointing response in regards to this request in the very near future. I bet I get v2 even though I specifically asked for v3.1. -
They sent me a second copy of XP Media Center Edition; Power DVD 5.5 (I already had 5.7); A Driver CD; a Dell Applications disk...the disk I already posted and this, that I could not identify:
Part: DN293
Desc: KIT;SW;MDRT;3;SERVICE;DVD
I am not sure it that is it or not...but all the others are pretty clear..
The Part Number on the Media Direct 3 disk itself is: JT332 REV00
Bob -
THANKS!
That would be it!
On my order (where I rec'd MD2) MD2 is as follows:
YJ638 KIT;SW;MDRT;2;BALI;WEST
So we can assume that MDRT = Media Di Rec T.
Thanks for taking the time to look @ the invoice again, Bobmitch!
****MD3 = DN293**** YiPee!
Router-Dude -
Glad to help!

Hi,
So in Holland the Technical can't find the part number DN293 badly. But he say that they sometimes makes a mistake by sending 2.0. (maby to get off the old CD's ;-)) But hey say that the 3.0 version is sending to my home.
I get this one, seen in the order status: U8032 KIT, SOFTWARE, APPLICATION, DELL MEDIA EXPERIENCE, 3.0, DELUXE 1
Does anyone knows the differences between 3.0 and 3.1?
When i push the MD button IN windows XP home, hey says that MD wont work. But with the restore image form dell it will work. So what is wrong with my clean install? Quickset is available. -
i have part number PJ442, any ideas which version this is?
-
Okay so I just recieved a Brand New replacement M1210, so needless to say I should theoretically have the latest version of MediaDirect which Dell is shipping.
Now, when I go into MediaDirect, nowhere does it actually say Version 3.1... from what I saw.
I went into Help and somewhere in there it says V.4.7.2022
Now, for some reason Dell shipped a MD reinstall CD with my system, I went on here and in the folder D:\WINDOWSMD3\ the file INFO.ini has a field
Ver=4.7.2023 and an
AVSetting=v3703_Dell_MD3
Maybe this corresponds to Dell's actual software version number.
Anyhow - Could you guys check your MD Reinstall CDs and see what version is in this ini file.
TO reiterate
V4.7.2022 is on my system
MD Reinstall CD PN FT243 A00 includes
V4.7.2023
Getting this info should help us figure out what part is the latest -
Im not sure how to check, but the new one has instant office... the reason why most of us want to upgrade, so if it has instant office, then you got 3.1
-
Keep in mind, we don't know if 3.1 is even the right version. I think that's for DMX. I think MD with instant office is just MD3.
Anyway, of course I got the wrong one (I have like 12 emails and chat transcripts where I ask over and over if its MD3 with Instant Office, they say they're positive). And in my case, my laptop came with it, not just looking to upgrade, so even when they said "they send whatever was on your machine", they're wrong.
So I'm on with a supervisor, trying to get him to send someone out with the correct disc as I needed to get this out tomorrow, but apparently that's not gonna happen. They won't ISO and toss it on an FTP for me either
So he says, I'm 100% sure this new one I'm sending is the correct part number. I google the part number, its MD2 and has been shipping since May. Told him he's wrong. He says DN293 or whatever is not right. So now I'm on hold while he searches for it.
Gotta love tech support from india. And to top it off they sent me outdated copies of all the other discs (tools, drivers, etc) from 2004. Nice job. But now I have a spare XP disc, to go in the stack of 12 others from other systems that they kept shipping the wrong discs with.
Apparently when ordering CDs for your dell system, you need to know the exact part number. Can't rely on these guys to get it right. -
That's Dell Media Experience (DMX) NOT Dell MediaDirect (MD3). Won't help you.
-
Well after arguing with the supervisor (who told me there is no such part for MD3), I made him look up the DN part number. He says it somes up as MD3. But since it didn't come up for my system it must be for other systems (rolleyes). Told him ship it anyway, so its on its way. Next business day warranty = next week warranty apparently (opened the case wed night).
-
Can someone just upload the latest version to Bittorrent or something so we don't all have to go through this? Or is it against some policy, rule?
-
Also, can someone post what is the actual latest Dell Media whatever and part number and any other details?
-
DN293 - Kit,Software,Dell Media Direct,3,SERVICE,Digital VideoDisk Drive
That is what i have coming on monday, DN293 is the item # -
Anyone know how to get music from my music folder using media direct? Not the one in xp but the one you can boot up without booting the OS. Everytime I search my computer, I end up with the system Music (start-up, usb, etc).
-
Plus it is most likely copyright infringement. It may be free from dell but most likely not free to distribute. -
Ok, I have both of the part numbers listed here on the way now. DMX 3.0 and the Media Direct 3.
However, the guy trying to send the CD's changed my accound so now both my laptops show up at Dimension 8200's on the "My Account" page on Dell's site. But they are an M1210 and an old Inspiron 8000. Will this hurt anything?
I've tried re-adding the Service Tags, but it's still wrong. Any way to correct it? -
No he didn't change your systems, Their system is hosed right now.
Both of my m1210s show as Dimension 8200s, I am told it is being worked on and will be fixed later.
Router-Dude -
Thanks, I just got off with chat and was told the same. Thanks!
DN293 KIT, SOFTWARE, DELL MEDIA DIRECT, 3, SERVICE, DIGITAL VIDEO DISK DRIVE 1
JK592 KIT, SOFTWARE, OVERPACK, WINDOWS XP, MCE05U, DIGITAL VIDEO DISK DRIVE, ENGLAND/ENGLISH 1
Those are what was sent. Seems the top one has 3. We'll see tomorrow! -
Here's a question I don't know if there is even an answer to as of yet. I have a faulty E1505 with MediaDirect2 that is being replaced with a new E1505 with MediaDirect3. I was hoping to just swap my current HD into the new system. In reading the little posted about MD3 it appears that the Partitions are different for MD3... so my concern is that MD3 will not function if I swap in my current hard drive. Anybody know if that's going to be the case? Might there be a workaround that doesn't involve reinstalling Windows? If not I guess I will have to backup the data partition from this drive and reimage the new drive's partition, if possible...
thanks!

I got the Media Direct 3 Part number DN293. Its Really MD3.
How do i tell if it is legal/illegal to share? -
-
-
on the disc there the copyright symbol
-
I got the MediaDirect 3 CD in today. How do I go about installing it without losing my current OS? It keeps telling me the hard drive is not prepared. I deleted the old mediadirect partition so now there is space for the install...but alas no go. Any ideas?
-
Because someone is undoubtedly wondering, the size of the MediaDirect 3.0 partition on new Dell laptops is 2047MB, according to the Windows Installer. MediaDirect 2.0 only used 1443MB by default. In addition, MD3 did not come hidden in the HPA (this was on a Toshiba drive, I can't speak for any other manufacturers).
-
It sets up a 47 meg tools partition at the beginning (unknown type), a main partition of all free space in the middle (NTFS), and a 2055 meg partition at the end for mediadirect (FAT32). Not sure exactly what its looking for on the install (partition types, MBR settings, names, etc) so figured it was easier to just ghost it off and back and let the MD3 DVD do all the setup.
First boot takes a while due to windows having to adjust some stuff with the partition changes, but after that it works perfect. Then just install MD3 via windows by inserting the DVD.
Worked like a charm here.
By the way it looks like MD3 is maintained by Cyberlink, as the updates link takes you to their site. So maybe they have an image hiding on there somewhere, but its pretty big so prob not. But they seem to be the creators, not dell. -
I guess the second time is the charm for me. It looks like they're shipping me MD3. I had to go through customer service to get it. Having a part number to give the rep made a big difference I think.
-
How long did it take you to complete the entire process, ghosting and everything? -

hi there everyone, anyone out there have the mediadirect 2 installer or iso with them, can anyone pls post it so that people can get it here instead of ordering it from dell,it would really help a lot of people having this same problem of dell not providing the installation cd of media direct 2, i have an inspiron 6400 laptop, just bought it a couple of days ago but it does not have an os and mediadirect 2 the only thing it have is a cd for the drivers, which by the way does not have the md2 installer,so if anyone can really do me a favor here and let me download the md2 installer that would be a grate deal to many
thanks guys
cheers -
how is the new media direct when compared to the old one? any difference? power consumption difference? i'll prolly get around to calling dell to ask for them on thursday....
this is actually pretty good timing for me because i was thinking of reformating my hard drive next weekend or so. -
Hi Guys, I just bought an Inspiron 640m last week. The OS was HOME XP Edition. Everything is working fine including Dell MediaDirect.
Yesterday I installed XP Profesional and after that MD is not working anymore.
I spent several hours reading from the internet on how to re-install MD.
But no luck, Im here in Dubai and nobody has the CD here.
Can anyone help me???
Thanks!!! -
my Hard Drive is 80GB, i formatted it and created 2 partitions.
I read that you must leave around 1.5GB unpartitioned so I left around 4GB to make sure there would be enough space.
Now what i need is the re-installation CD? -
yap dats what ive been askin for from you guys out there if anyone of u hav the .iso image of the mediadirect 2.0 installer, ive read that many of u already hav a cd by now, could anyone link us a page to download it????pls help us who are in dire need right now......pllleeeaaassseeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Yes pls help us please
-
Hi everybody I requested my disc from dell yesterday so it should come in sometime this week. When i get it Ill see if theres a way I can get the iso and perhaps put it on megaupload and post the link so you guys can use it. I've been having the same problems i left partition 1, use 2 for os, 3 is storage and have 2gb unpartioned. Used directions to repair media direct with no luck so I called dell to request the installation disk. Whether its 2.0 or 3.0 i dont know but ill respond back once i get the disk and see if it works.

-
Here you find MDR 2.0 en DMX 3.1. So NOT the new MDR 3.0 -
Dell say to me, i'll send you the 9400 MDR disk because the 9400 already have MDR 3.0 by default.
So the disk arrives today! Mabey its working, but if the application checks on 6400->9400 the installation will fail. -
As for DMX, how do you install it? do you have to iso and then re-boot, etc? or just run an installer? (downloading)
rafiKi -
You guys might be interested to know that Media Direct is just a derivation from Cyberlink's PowerCinema.
http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/products/main_12_ENU.html
Although Cyberlink seems to have stopped releasing new versions at 4.0, while MD3 is Ver 4.7 -
The ISO is 2.5 gigs, so can't post it here. Its also illegal to copy it and post it anywhere for that matter. Even if someone wants to take the risk, its a very large file that would kill your bandwidth for a long time. -
