How long after the introduction of the new Dell notebooks in the United States, will they be released in Canada?
-
In the other thread, someone said they called and asked, and were told both the inspiron and the M1330 will launch in canada at the same time as america.(so tue. for the inspiron, and july 10th for the M1330)
-
I doubt that will happen. Canada always gets teh technology 3-4 months later.
Example, the Latitude D630 came into market in Canada barely a week ago, also it is priced 500$ more expensive then in the U.S. (even when the exchange is almost nil.) -
I just called and asked about the new M1330. The rep. said that I should call back tomorrow as he will have some good news for me.

So what you are saying Askarii is that folks like myself in a border town (Detroit) could make a tidy profit assisting our Canadian friends purchase newly issued Dell computers?
I kid because I know that's illegal. The illegality of it makes Dell's delay that much stupider. It could potentially criminalize, otherwise law-abiding, customers. Worse it creates a gray market that could be exploited by exactly the type of people the government doesn't want us to export computer technology to in the first place. And to our friends in Homeland Security thanks for reading. -
Canada should get them along with the States. I'm presuming that's the reason for most of the models dropping off the Dell Canada site. I doubt they'd leave it that way for an extended period of time.
-
If they dont update tomorrow, or in the next few days, they are bound to lose a lot of sales to the competition.
You do have a point with dell, and every other tech company ripping off canadians... Its pretty amazing how out dollar can go up in value by nearly 50%, and not have ANY price fluctuations from american stores. If i were to drive 200km south, and order the EXACT same laptop from an american address, i could literally save over $1000, if you factor in all the extra coupons the yanks get. I mean its bad enough they screw us upfront by not pricing according to the value of our currency, but then to refuse to offer us coupons... -
aye, thats why Im going down to the states to get my latitude D630.
and yes woodwards, you could, and best part is, we'd all love you for itthough it is relatively easy to order a dell in the us and go grab it then bring it back to canada.

Well, Canada actually got the new Inspiron and XPS models first! They're on the Canadian site right now... and not on the US site yet.

The 1520 look freakin amazing! You can configure it with the 8600gt for under $1400 cnd... so far its limited to the core 2 duo 7100 for santa rosa.
edit-Now the inspiron's are unavailable, and the M1330 IS accessible. The upgrade to LED back lighting is...
$0! I guess the drop in webcam quality is, in their minds, reason to offer you LED at equal price.(plus it bodes well for them if their laptops have less toxins in them, and CCFL have mercury) Price to go from X3100 to 8400GS is $100cnd. And the SSD is $550cnd, over the standard 120gig 5400rpm drive. -
@ Cam_86: No! You need to choose the right "base" configuration to get access to the better processors. I think you can get up to 2.2 Ghz. I forgot the Txxxx number.
Anyway, my brother will be ordering the 1520 within a few days. I look forward to writing a review or something. -
Dang! They're not charging for the LED upgrade, they're just giving you a VGA webcam with it instead of a 2.0mp. Totally worth it, imo.

Yikes... Why is it so much more expensive at the american site? More options are offered but for more or less the same system that was $1700cnd at the canadian store, its $2100usd at the american store(and they charge $150 for the LED screen, as opposed to the free one in canada)
I think they made a mistake on the canadian store... -
We have a higher base price, even without the exchange rate between CDN and USD. We have less RAM and a weaker processor. Our LED upgrade costs $150 instead of $0. But the graphics card upgrade is free.
I guess this is punishment for the Dell coupons we have enjoyed over the years. -
good idea Askarii, i never thought of that. maybe i'll get a D630 down in the US.. since.. oh wait nvm. i JUST checked dell.ca and pretended to build a D630 again.. and guess what? the processors show as having an 800MHz bus! lol YAY! santa rosa is in Canada now! least for the D630...
-
? BOTH are available at the US site.
-
Damn, this morning the LED screen was a free upgrade on the CDN site but now it's not available at all...
Also, for any Canadians who've ordered the notebook, what's your ship date? -
What is the LED screen??
Why do some say glossy, some don't? And they don't quote the resolutions on the canadian site..
