Anyone know if the motherboards in the new Dell's support 800Mhz RAM (specifically the 1420/1400)?

800 mhz notebook RAM doesn't even exist yet. Right?

It does exist, however Santa Rosa doesn't support faster than DDR2-667MHz RAM.

And based on the increase in speed from 533 -> 667, expect the increase in speed from 667 -> 800 to be nonexistent as well.

Does RAM speed really matter? Is there a perceptible difference? Would 768 of super fast RAM > 1 GB of "regular" speed RAM?

Where did you hear this from? Latest word is that at least for the Penryn-based Santa Rosa refresh, nothing will change except for the new 45nm CPUs:

"The Santa Rosa refresh remains identical to what Intel launched a few months ago. The only difference with the refreshed Santa Rosa is support for Intel Penryn-based mobile Core 2 Duo processors. Intel’s Santa Rosa refresh continues to use the same GM965 and PM965 Express chipsets paired with the ICH8M south bridge."

To me, that indicates RAM support will stay at 667Mhz. Intuition suggests they keep it here until quad-core Penryns hit the market, possibly with Montevina.

    Montevina will support DDR3-800.
