Wow. I just came back from Best Buy and saw the new Dell Studio 15z (1569) with the Intel Core i5! It's less than 1" thick! Slot load DVD, HDMI, displayport, 3 USB, SD Reader, and matte lid! This one was brown. The best part is the battery! It is no longer in the back like the current dell studio 15/17. It is now flat and thin like the HP Envy's!! It's now underneath the laptop!
Sorry I couldn't take pictures but they just put it out and had a HAND WRITTEN price tag with info! It has the Intel Core i5 420 I think. You really have to see how THIN and SMALL the laptop is! I hope they make a 14"!
-
are you in us or canada?
-
I am located in the US. Whoever lives in Dallas, it is at the Park Ln/75 Best Buy. It is the Dell Studio 15z in Cappuccino (light brown matte lid) Model 1569
-
What video card did it have, do you know? Sounds quite interesting.
-
no idea to be exact. it only listed Intel Integrated but no model number. the tag was handwritten just Intel Core i5 420, 3gb of ram, 320gb HD, and dvd rw
-
$1000 bucks for that!?
wow -
If it does not have any discrete graphics, then meh, although i guess it's great for people who just want some multimedia action and some flash games.
-
Yeah. But it could be a mistake knowing Best Buy. It was handwritten after all lol...
But the model number was Dell Studio 15z and not the traditional Studio 15. I wonder if they're going to make a regular line and a Z line since it was under 1" thick. Guess we will find out at CES. -
They had 15z before with Intel 4500 graphics and CULV chips. It's gone from the website now though (US website).
-
not true. you are thinking about the inspiron 15z. they also make the inspiron 14z with CULV and a studio 14z with core 2 duo.
-
It is integrated graphics ... but it is integrated directly to the CPU ... hence performance will be much better than the same Intel discrete. It will even parallel non-Intel discrete as far as graphics is concerned. Should also have power advantages.
-
-
here it is! supposedly this is made strictly for Best Buy...

That looks super slick. Now make it a 14 - and you might have a deal.
-
i know man. ever since i saw this...i was thinking...CES will be the &#*# and i pray they make a 14" and now this crap...
I'm still hoping though because on the box at Best Buy it clearly stated Dell Studio 15z. I hope Dell announces something soon! -
All they gotta do is a refresh of the 14z. Sounds simple. You listening Dell? lol
-
I'd be interesting to see how much the 15 weighs? Less than the Envy perhaps.
-
does anyone know when this is set to come out? I searched best buys website and couldn't find it anywhere

Apparently it's going to be available on January 17 for around $900 -
The Best Buy site was (finally) updated overnight - the new model is Dell Studio S15Z-2249CPN. It looks really nice - much sleeker than my Studio 1555. The question remains as to what the 3DMark06 will be for the Intel HD graphics - but, that said, I haven't attempted any 3D games on my 1555 anyway. Link will take you to the Blue Label page - there's also a Toshiba and a Sony ...

Intel® Core i5-430M processor; 4GB DDR3 memory; DVD±RW/CD-RW drive; 15.6" widescreen; 500GB hard drive; Bluetooth; more
Specs from the Best Buy website. Bundle also comes with Kaspersky AV and a Netgear Push2TV adapter. No price listed yet.... -
i think notebook check has a review on the i5 studio, and the integrated chip scored around 2k on 3dmark06, making it just under the ati3450 gpu. heard dell is going to release ati 5000 series soon tho, so i suggest waiting for a few weeks
-
Saw this @best buy today. It looked sleek and slim -- very nice laptop. I hoped it would weigh less but @ 5.5 lbs it felt light. The pattern on the palm rest looked good.
The xps 16 next to it felt super heavy compared to the 15z -

i heard somewhere that this will be offered with discrete graphics in the future? does anyone know if this is true?
I went to best buy today and saw it, and it does look very sleek and nice. The only thing holding me back is the lack of discrete graphics, the screen resolution, and the color (although i could definitely deal with what is offered). does anyone think that these will change in the future? -
I quite like the cappuccino color. It's not something you see everyday on a laptop and it's better than the standard gray or black. -
It was indeed released on 01/17/2009. I love the very pleasant light-brown color, the style and the build quality. I had been looking for a thin-and-light for two months and when I saw this machine, I bought it. I've been using it and really find a lot to like. It uses the 2010 Intel i5 processor and is quite fast and responsive. It has wireless display meaning that you can send video and audio to your large screen TV without using a HDMI cable. It is one inch thin even though it includes a slot-load optical drive and just about every port you would expect on a laptop, except for VGA out. With most thin-and-lights, you don't get nearly the number connections. It is a really cool machine and, I think, an excellent value for $999. A Dell representative who was at the store told me that the 1569 is only available at Best Buy. I love it.
-
Congrats on the laptop. Does it run cool? Can it be used on a lap for a couple hours?
-
I've had one of these for a couple days now and am very impressed so far. It runs pretty cool on the lap, with just a touch of warmth on the left side. Battery life is pretty impressive especially considering the battery fits flush into the unit, unlike the high capacity battery on my old HP. Positively stunning screen display as well.
-
It is only slightly warm. I've had it on my lap for 4-5 hours, running on battery, and it never felt hot. It is a GREAT machine!!! -
Congrats!
How's the Wireless Display working? Stable video and audio, no dropped frames? -
Nice Purchase! I was wondering if you knew where the hard drive and memory access points are. Maybe the manual might say.
-
I really like this laptop.
So fixed, sorry bout that. -
Does it feel heavy after having it on lap for that long? I'm thinking of upgrading my 13" so I'm curious.
-
this is the studio 15z...NOT studio xps 16... -
I bought the computer yesterday and today I'm having trouble with the AC adapter. It's saying that it cannot be determined and that the battery will not charge. I tried unplugging and plugging again and nothing. Changing the outlet worked at first but then the message came back. I realised that if I plug it veery slowly (the plug that goes to the laptop) it works (sometimes). No message and it shows that the battery is charging.
Any ideas? -
I would take it back and just get a new laptop or ac cord.
-
I bought this yesterday and haven't had a lot of time trying it out yet, but like it so far. The screen image is beautiful compared to by 5 year old Dell Inspirion laptop. The only question I have for someone else who has this laptop is how is your sound? I wasn't impressed by it, but I must state I haven't listed to any music, I was just going by the few sounds, etc. that came from the speakers. It seemed very tinny, like it was in a can and not stereo. I'm hoping music/movies sound better. I'm going to try a CD tonight, but was just wondering of others opinions. I went in to the sound area and tried to adjust but it really didn't help. If anyone who has this can give me some feedback, I would appreciate it. Thanks.

Is anyone noticing a strange partitioning of the hard drive? I am seeing a C drive labeled as OS (operating system?) with 58GB and a D drive with 397GB. All my programs and user file are happily loading themselves to the C drive which is now already well over half filled while the much larger D drive sits completely devoid of anything. Doesn't seem right to me.
-
Do your adapters have this strange design? the segment that goes from the wall to the black block (don't know the name) has an elbow like shape which is very strange. I mean, that thing is meant to be broken in time. The cable bends almost 180 degrees if your not close to the wall.
Another thing I noticed is that the battery indicator won't turn off when the battery is fully charged. I don't know if I'm reading the guide correctly but I understand that it is supposed to turn off when the battery level is over 98%. -
-
-
I sure wonder why Dell/Best Buy is delivering these systems with the 500GB hard drive partitioned this way. -
If someone could get a wifi surfing battery test to see if it lives up to its claim that'd be great!

Does anyone know if this 1569 model comes with the ability to make a COMPLETE recovery backup on a USB flash drive. I read that the Studio did and was wondering if this was an option on this model.
I had the inspiron 1440 and second day speaker driver disappeared, and trying to reinstall just the driver didn't work, so i wound up using the disc they supplied and it only installed a clean Win 7. Then when i tried to individually re-install each driver from the utility & driver CD, i messed that thing up pretty bad, as i didnt know what i was doing. I have restored my Acer 100 times in the past couple of years and its always a quick 20 minute install leaving my D drive with files in tact and restoring the C drive to Factory, like a brand new computer each time. Anyone know if it has flash drive recovery capability?
thanx,
Dumm

I just saw one of these this afternoon at Best Buy as well. I have been shopping for a while for a new 15" laptop that weighs less than 6 lbs. but still has a full HD display.
I was pretty impressed by the packaging of the 15z, but the performance is a little lacking. I got home and chatted with a Dell sales rep who said to keep an eye out for customizable versions on the Dell website. She wouldn't give a time frame. If this becomes available with a high-resolution screen, faster processor, and switchable graphics, I will be first in line.
I had an early release HP Envy for three weeks and returned it because the sharp edge dug into my wrists, the display wouldn't tilt back far enough, and the quad core processor was just overkill for my needs. Up until today I had been looking at the new Lenovo T510, the upcoming HP EliteBook 8540, and the yet-to-be-announced Dell Precision M4500. I'm excited at the idea of getting something a little less pricey.
I will post again if I find out anything new.
Cheers! -

Fingers crossed hoping to see it on Dell's site in the next month as I'm itching to get a new laptop.
