Just unpacked my new E1505, much lighter than the old Inspiron 1100. I opened the lid and inside is a sticker "Core Solo Inside" wtf.

Do I have a Core Duo Inside?
In Task Mgr > Performance > there ia a single chart "CPU Usage" and beside it two charts inside "CPU Usage History"

    Under Device Mgr > Processors it shows 2 - T2300 @ 1.6GHz

    Second Question?
I clicked on Disk Management, It said I didn't have permission. So what box do I check and where to get permission? I want to be able to see the partitions.

I'm using the E1505 to write this, so far I like the glossy screen, very crisp.

    Thanks

Open the task manager, and hit the performance tab. If there are 2 CPU usage history boxes, then you ahve core duo

Also do a start > Right click on My Computer > Hit properties > Hit the general tab f not in it already.

it will display your CPU there at the bottom right corner

Ahh yes, T2300 is Core Duo, T1300 is Core Solo. :)

Any thoughts on Disk Management? How do I get permission?

You probably have to log in as administrator or a user that has administrator rights. If you have fast user switching enabled, you'll have to disable it (fast user switching is enabled if you boot up right to the desktop without a login prompt, or the user icons).

    To disable fast user switching:

    Go to Start>Control Panel>User Accounts

Under "or Pick a Control Panel Icon" click User Accounts again. Click "Change the way users log on and off". Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" and "Fast User Switching", then hit apply. Now go to Start and Log Off. It will take you to a login prompt. Username will be: Administrator and password should be blank. From there you should be able to access disk management. Once you've done that you may want to go back into User Accounts and make sure the account you were previously logged in as has administrator rights...unless you don't want to run with admin rights.

Don't know what I did but I now have access. I booted into Safe Mode, then I opened Accounts in CP. I was already listed as the administrator.

Then I opened Disk Mgr and I could see all drives and partitions. Oh well, all is well that ends well.

    Thanks,

So far I'm pleased. :) Some random thoughts:
    • The power, HD and 3rd? light are on the hinge, much better than in front on my old lappie.
    • The white trim against the silver interior is odd, not objectionable, just odd.
    • Very quiet, again relative.
    • Bottom seems about as warm as the old lappie.
    • Win key and Delete key are swapped, don't use either a lot.
    • Boy is there a lot of bloatware.
    • My HD is a 40GB Fujitsu, went to their website, it has 8MB cache.
    • The gloss screen seems fine, very pleasing when powered up.

    More to follow.

the far right light is the battery light. When you start charging your battery, it will flicker every now and then until it is fully charged. Once it starts to get low, it flashes orange.

Its probably better to reformat because of the junkware. Just don't delete the smaller 40mb partition. All of the information for formatting is in my guide.

Congrats on your new purchase :)

That makes sense. Would have eventually figured it out.

You got that right, but only after a nights sleep. I also want to burn that DVD first, as you suggested. Good way to test the DVD burner.

Thanks and you won't find me whining next month that there is something new and better. If my USB ports on my 1100 hadn't started failing I could still be happy with it. :)

Do you know how to remove the adhesive? I pull the labels, on one the adhesive stayed behind. I'll start with alcohol and I have acetone.
I figure out the adhesive, I used the adhesive of one label to pull off the adhesive from the case. :)

    Hi! SouthernGirl:

How about just uninstall all those unwanted softwares instead of reformat?

A problem with that approach is that you leave the registry with all the old links.

SouthernGirl, can give you her version later. Likely she's already discussed it in her reformat sticky.

LOL, yeah this is a common question. I'm not sure if i have it in the guide or not.

You can just remove the software via add/remove in control panel, but like Hermit said - you are leaving a lot of registry keys and folders behind. If you do that, make sure to get a good registry cleaner for it.

It takes the same amount of time which ever way you go. I just think it is better to reformat and get a completely clean system.
