I was browsing the Asus forum (my next notebook purchase) and found something interesting. Check it out Thought I'd bring it to my temporary home over here in the Dell forum.

From what I can understand it's a portable 7900gs that hooks up to your express card slot and delivers dedicated graphics processing power to your portable. The fact it's run through pci-e 1x will become a large bottleneck for information limiting it's potential. Also it seems to require an external LCD so pick up and go gaming won't be an option. It does offer HDMI output which seems to be lacking on a lot of ultraportables (at least right now).

Note: I didn't read all 170 posts on in the Asus forum so forgive me if my summary is inaccurate. Too tired... G'night

What, so a separate, large and bulky graphics card is a good thing for ultraportables of all things? I thought the point in those was that they were small, light and *easy* to carry around. :p

That is if you need an Ultra portable *Gaming* machine.

I think this is a really good idea. I want portability so that I can use it for my university work, but at home I want power not portability.

Lack of built-in display support is a big drawback :( .

Well, maybe you can use the laptop's LCD if you have some sort of video-in then!

thats been posted about a few times now, I still think your better off building a desktop gaming rig for games, this gadget wont perform as fast as a dedicated high end desktop gaming card , it will have to be plugged in, a 1x pcie slot wont supply near the amount of power, high end cards to day take power form the x16 slot, and straight from the power supply, so in the end, you still wont be able to game freely anywhere, you'll need to be plugged in,more than likely takes up two outlets, and have room for the gadget, and still wind up with lackluster performance, not to metion the cost, I dont know how much it will be, but I know it wont be cheap, and more than likely a lack of upgradeability, truely mobile gaming is still a long ways away, and before anyone starts, a 17" 15 pound power guzzling machine is not a "mobile " machine, its an easier to move desktop, even my m1210 with a 7400 is lackluster at unplugged gaming, as you'll drain the battery in about an hour with everything cranked to full power to run any semi demanding game
