...someone else who says "You also get a remote control with the Inspiron 1520 that fits into the ExpressCard 54mm slot for storage."

    Hmm...

probably one of those 0$ upgrades..like an external modem with the XPS although here in india, they ship it anyway, and charge the equivalent of 20$ for it..

Nice review. Glad to see it also mentions a sturdy design and low noise and heat. A bit of graininess is not ideal, but I'm sure it'll be better than my current laptop and old desktop. And good to see a weight figure with the 8600M GT figured in. 7.4 pounds isn't too bad - at least to someone like me who's used to heavy notebooks.

I think they just put the remotes in there the for the reviewers. Not unless that was an actual consumer, I'm pretty sure Dell sends their new models to only some people to have them review it (like Andrew on this site).

Wow that thing is big compared to the HP? Or is it just the camera angle?

Atleast they say it's sturdy, and runs cool and quiet. That's always a good thing.

I asked the CSR if the remote was part of my order...

He said that it wasnt, and that it was OPTIONAL upgrade.

I said "Oh, ok, because i couldnt find it anywhere on the site"

He said "Not to worry sir, i'll just add it in for you free of charge"

He then sent me a new order confirmation email, including the remote. He also added in the in-ear earphones aswell.

If you do this, it WILL set the shipping date back a few days.

Hey qwerty4444, was your CSR rep a kiosk guy, an outsourced sales rep or an Australian? Every time I dialled up it was to Malaysia or Singapore and I heard Australian reps are more easy to get deals off.

I'm getting buyer's remorse from my 1520 order 'coz I think it's not such a great deal.

    Specs are:
    T7300 2.0Ghz
    3 Years CompleteCover
    1440x900 Display
    4GB RAM
    NVidia GeForce 8600M GT
    160GB 5400RPM
    BlueTooth, Draft Wireless N
    Backpack
    AUD$2500

I wanted extras off for a reduction in price, but they would not go below $2500 and suckered me in with extended warranty etc.

^^if you want to make that a better deal dont go with the 4gb ram, buy the ram yourself and upgrade it yourself also if your using windows 32-bit it wont even been recognised anyway.

Oh jesus yes get rid of the RAM! There is no way it's worth like $800? for another 2GB. Either get 1GB and upgrade to 4GB yourself if you really must have 4GB (I do not see why you would) or just get 2GB.

That one thing alone will save you a lot of money.

The upgrade to the 4GB RAM in Australia is $540 - but everything is more expensive. 2GB RAM sticks retail at around $300 in Australia.

I know, this isn't the best deal. I've been looking for a while, and at first was sure I was going to outsource something from the U.S., but I'm now lazy and bored, and Dell is easy.

Still, I can always cancel, and hope for a frantic call back from the sales rep to get a better deal.

Or I could just keep the notebook, and since I got CompleteCover thrown in, if I'm still pissed off at my purchase - in nigh on 2.5 years, I'll call Dell up, and when I'm sure I'm going to get a replacement, drown the entire thing in coffee and get a new model for free!

Edit: To put this in perspective, the whole bundle is around USD$2150 so its not so INSANELY horrible a deal as some might think.

    thats a lie!
    A filthy lie!
It is available in the US, best proof: I ordered mine with it. It clearly states "Express card IR remote control",. of course it is natural to assume that the IR means Infrared.
Anyways, it is available on the second tab when configuring your system in dell home. It is the last option, which says tv tuner and remote control. You can choose to just add a remote.
