    Hey everyone,

I just ordered a Dell Inspiron 640m, should be at my door anytime soon...

I have noticed a lot of mixed opinions on this product, ranging from its battery life, to the bloatware, to the "horrific" True Life Screen.

I had a couple questions about Dell, as this is my first, firsthand experience with one. My girlfriend has the Inspiron 6000 and seems quite happy with it, besides the weight. I had/still regretfully have an Acer Aspire 1680 - I hate it - Hands down worst customer service I have ever experienced with any company, computer or non-computer related. Worked great for the first 6 months, then...motherboard fried...sent back, 2 weeks later got it back, "replaced mainboard"...Ok.....couple months later, error messages everytime I shut down, "Windows has encountered a serious error, etc, etc" - Sent it in again -Back again two weeks later - "No problems with computer, some bad sectors on HDD, formatted HDD" - Ok...couple months later again, error messages like crazy....Now....out of warranty - Call Acer "There is nothing we can do - send it in for $499 just to take a look at it...or we can sell you a hard drive..." Yeah, ok...thanks a lot...

    Anyway...enough ranting.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with the Inspiron 640m? I would really appreciate some more mixed opinions. Let's see the differing opinions.

    Thanks,

    Paul

I just received mine yesterday and I have the widescreen tru life lcd. It is impressive. Its bright, clear, and sharp. I agree that there is a tiny bit of light leakage at the bottom of the screen. Nothing major. If you didnt cvoncentrate on looking at it, you woudnt notice it when your doing regular computer stuff. AC adaptor runs cool. and so does the laptop itself. You dont have anything to worry about. Its a great purchase. Let me know if I can help with any other questions

i ordered 640m from dell outlet with matte screen , because og the lower resolution , and anti-glare effect and not so rich colours as truelife. I have sony vaio with xbrite and sony monitor with matte screen and i personally prefer matte screen for using it outside - in the univresity.

    Thanks for your responses guys,

Another question I have for everyone regarding Dell systems is:

Is it really necessary to re-format the hard drive to clear all the blotware, or will I be fine. I am using this as a basic machine for school and such, I will not be playing games, downloading songs, etc, etc.

Let's see if we can get some interesting opinions on this topic,

    Thanks,

    Paul

P.S. - Any other users have the Inspiron 640m/E1405 - Any opinions?

Most of us usually reformat. Bloatware will slow your system down
