Heyy,
Went to the closest Dell kiosk today, and took some pics of the 1520, and 1720. the 1420 wasnt available at the time though.
The one with the Ruby red is the 1520, and the Black one is the 1720.
Enjoyy

sweet! im happy i went with blue now. although the red does look pretty sweet.....
-
Wow nice pics!!! Good job qwerty!
edit: nice kicks in the last pic, haha. -
Very nice. I hope the XPS Red is that shade, because that looks sweet.
Did you get to play with the machines at all? Like build quality, screens, etc. Notice any cool new things?
OOh I just noticed the 17in has a numeric pad. That's pretty cool.
BTW Is it just me or do those Dell Kiosks look kind of janky? They are no Apple Stores that's for sure. -
I'm guessing all those folded laptops were the 1520s showing the range of colors? 1520 doesn't look too chubby...
-
To me, the build quality is FAR better than the previous inspirons. Feels alot more solid and sturdy, and its not too heavy either. The Dell representitives working there had absolutely no idea about anything, so I gave up asking questions.
The screens, with truelife look AMAZING in real life.
They exceeded my excpectations by a longshot.... -
The "folded" laptops, are only the lid of the laptops...not the base.
-
WoW very nice, too bad they didn't have the 1420 would have loved to have seen it
. I chose the blue one myself, but the red one does indeed look nice and shiny. They don't look as thick as I read it was, but perhaps that's just my observation.
-
-
nice shoes in that last pic
-
cheers sonex!
-
Man I got thrown off...I seriously thought that they were that the 1520 was that thin!!! Silly me....just the tops... (excitement fades)
-
Sweet.
Thanks for taking those pictures man... Can't wait for mine.
For those who are wondering about the glare, the Dell Kiosk is HEAVILY lit, with fluro lights etc...I doubt you will get any of that where ever you'll be taking the laptop. -
-
I've seen the 1420, but not the other ones. The 1420 was very nice, and the colors of all the lids (except for white) were very attractive to me. Can't comment on the 1520, but the 1420's thickness wasn't bad at all.
-
Thank you for sharing these pictures! More rep power to you
Do they look/feel thick in real life? -
They certainly dont look thick at all.....OR feel thick.
When opened...the base is extremely thin for a notebook of this power. (about 1-1.5cm) -
Oh Btw....for some unknown reason...there were no pink laptops on display, kinda dissapointing, but oh well
-
I ate them all..... That's why.
-
thanks for the great pic, the one thing though is the keypad buttons, do they have a long bar on the buttons which sticks up a little bit if anyone understands me! heres a pic if u dont!
i hope not as i like to keep my finger on the button and my finger will end of with a dent in it lol -
Hahaha Derviskemal, nah that is an inward dent, nothing sticks out at all
-
great lol! i am very happy now!
+1 rep!!
-
thanks for the great pictures! b.w take some pictures from the side, so that we can know what is the thickness.. b.w the colors of the lid are they gradient like fading from dark tone to light tone, or it looks same through out
-
Junksource....i will try to take side pictures when i go next, but i can assure you, it is alot thinner than u probably expect.
As for the colours...there is no gradient at all...its just one colour tone through out.
Hope i helped you! -
Very Nice pictures man. +rep.
I wish i had a wallmart near me so i could go see.
Man the entire boston area and the only walmart is in god-knows-where (Revere). -
rubyred seems the way to go, fortunately i have ordered in rubyred
-
OK I have some questions. Did you see a 1520 with the 1680*1050 resolution, was it just as bright as the other screens, because on the dell website it says the 1680 screen is 200nits, while the 1440 screen is 250nits! and the 1280 screen 220nits. What gives?
Also, where are the speakers on the 1520, below in that dark area right? -
the 1440 screen is brighter and the speakers are in the front like the e1505/6400
-
Are you sure its brighter? Doesnt the 1680 screen have a better viewing angle? It says it has a Wider viewing angle.
-
Company 1: "out screens are 300 nits!"
Company 2: "Ya well our screens are 350 nits!"
Consumer: "I dont see the difference."
It doesn't end up being that much brighter (some one posted that it ends up being on average of the two brightness formulas 8% brighter) You wont tell the difference unless you have two side by side comparisons. -
I guess ill go with the 1680 screen then. Because I like space!
-
well my previous lappy was 1440 res and 250 nits and was very bright and had a great viewing angle, the 1680 screen is a waste of money i think but others maybe happier with it
-
The picture that I posted 5th from the bottom (1720)....that was taken with all the bright flourescent lights shining on it....and you can see that there is hardly any glare, and the screen is extremely bright and clear.
-
yeah but the 1720 doesnt have 1680, its 1440, or 1920.
And the 1920 res has 260nits!! -
Yeh my bad, I dont know too much about nits lol
-
so did all the screen look bright and good in there?
-
yep, all looked good, there were none worse off than others imo, visa versa.
-
Great pictures.. Thanks.

Has anyone here felt the "micro satin finish" of the new Inspirons? I visited a Dell Direct kiosk at a mall yesterday and it had a 1420 non-working display model out. It had the standard jet black lid attached which does not have the special finish and does indeed pick up a lot of fingerprints. I did get to touch the other color lids that were out and let me just say, "Wow!" It seems to be some sort of rubberized polymer, and not the brushed aluminum feel that Dell's CSRs were telling me about over the phone. The material has a very pleasant feeling to it. I think people will be pleasantly surprised and satisfied by these new lids. Word of warning: the white is just a shiny non-satin type of finish. I couldn't tell if it was a plastic material or not, but it certainly looked that way. I cannot fully attest to the build quality because the display model was just a mock-up and the screen was loose so as to allow for swapping out of the other color lids on demand. Otherwise, there was no flex to the keyboard and everything else seemed very solid.
-
You must have looked like a cool kid taking pictures of computers in those shoes..
haha just kidding man.. -
-
-
Thank you so much, I am now very happy with my decision to go with the red, looks very nice.
-
I went with the red as well. Though it doesn't appear to be a shiny material.
-
for some reason that 2nd 1720 pic makes the screen look....not widescreen...if i'm the only one I'll shut up
-
Yeah, just shut up. haha, jk. All the Inspirons are widescreen.
-
from a glance of the thumbnails(the larger image is loading slow), the yellow looks fugly but the other colors look nice, the green is decent
-
How is the keyboard? How durable do you think these laptops are? And uhh... am I the only one getting the flamingo pink lappie?
-
i don't get the black color. is it just plastic like the real old dell laptops (when they were all black) or is it supposed to be shiny like the hp dv laptops/ apple laptops?
from the pictures i can't really tell a diff between the black ones from the color ones (texture wise) and if it is just plastic I don't get how its more prone to fingerprints? -
